INTRODUCTION
USAID Tuhifadhi Chakula (Let’s Save Food) Project is a five-year, US$24M project that has been co- created to improve food handling, storage, and value addition, facilitate market access, inform, and promote policy and regulatory frameworks that reduce food loss and waste and strengthen local organizations capacity to lead in post-harvest management. Overall, the project will contribute to reducing post-harvest losses from 30-40% for horticulture to 15% and from 13% to 7% for cereals by the end of the Project. The project objectives will be achieved through four interlinked Intermediate Results which are.
IR1: Improve food handling, storage, and value addition at producer and commercial levels.
IR2: Facilitate market access to ensure agricultural goods reach consumers.
IR3: Inform and promote policy and regulatory frameworks that reduce food loss and waste.
IR4: Strengthen local organizations’capacity to lead on post-harvest management.
OBJECTIVES
The objectives of this grant opportunity include, but are not limited to:
- Enhance post-harvest handling techniques for farmers and processors in the cereal commodities sector focusing on maize, rice, and common beans.
- Improve management skills and business development strategies for participants.
- Supporting farmers and processors in developing business strategies, including value addition and product diversification, to enhance their competitiveness in the market.
