Tanzania Tree Pilot Project Officer (Fixed-Term) at One Acre Fund

Founded in 2006, One Acre Fund equips 5.5 million smallholder farmers to make their farms more productive. Across nine countries that together are home to two-thirds of Africa’s farmers, we provide high-quality farm supplies, tree seedlings, accessible credit, modern agronomic training, and a wide range of other agricultural services. Our Tanzania program, founded in 2013, serves approximately. 150,000 farmers, providing quality farm supplies through a network of agrodealer shops, and a range of different tree species through local nurseries situated close to farmers. Our team in Tanzania is headquartered in Iringa and supported by three smaller offices Mbeya and Njombe in the southern highlands. To learn more about our work, look at our Tanzania program blog.

The Project Officer will support the implementation of the Tree Pilot Project at the village level by working with smallholder farmers, distributing seedlings, providing technical guidance, and ensuring successful tree planting and management.

You will be a part of the Market Access Team and will report directly to the Market Acess Coordinator. This role is based in Iringa and is fully onsite.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the Tanzania Tree Pilot Project Office, ensuring effective implementation of project activities and achieving project goals.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of project work plans, budgets, and schedules.
  • Coordinate with local stakeholders, including government officials, community leaders, and project partners, to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Monitor and report on project progress, identifying and mitigating risks and issues as they arise.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies, procedures, and standards, as well as local laws and regulations.

Qualifications

Across all roles, these are the general qualifications we look for. For this role specifically, you will have:

  • 5+ years of experience in project management, preferably in a conservation or environmental organization.
  • Proven experience in managing budgets and financial reporting.
  • Strong knowledge of forestry, conservation, and environmental issues in Tanzania.
  • Experience working with local communities and stakeholders in Tanzania.
  • Fluency in Swahili and English languages.

Market Access Supervisor Assistant at One Acre Fund

About the Role

This role is responsible for coordinating and executing OATL’s market access activities at the regional level, as directed by senior management. Key responsibilities include overseeing crop aggregation, ensuring quality control, and implementing operations based on market data and strategies provided by senior management. The candidate will work closely with farmers—particularly youth and women—to facilitate market access for crops, provide training, and support crop sales, ensuring alignment with the organization’s market access strategy.

Responsibilities

You will:

  • Ensure Market Alignment: Conducting feasibility and market demand studies (with senior management) to identify and pursue the most profitable markets for multiple crops.
  • Execute Strategy: Coordinating and implementing all regional market access activities based on strategic direction.
  • Empower Farmers: Delivering training on best practices and financial literacy, specifically targeting our farmer groups, youth, and women, to improve crop quality and market readiness.
  • Optimising Logistics: Overseeing aggregationquality control, storage solutions, and delivery to minimise losses and maximise efficiency.
  • Support Sales: Assisting in crop sales and organizational procurement following OATL’s strategy.
  • Supervise temporary data collectors in a specific region, ensuring accurate data collection and providing guidance.

  • Knowledge of agricultural input logistics, market pricing structures, and product aggregation techniques..
  • Strong ability to build and maintain strategic partnerships with key stakeholders across finance, logistics, and extension sectors.

You will coordinate and execute OATL’s market access activities at the regional level, as directed by senior management. Main responsibilities include overseeing crop aggregation, ensuring quality control, and implementing operations based on market data and strategies provided by senior management. You will be asked to work with farmers— youth and women—to facilitate market access for crops, provide training, and support crop sales, ensuring understanding of the organization’s market access strategy.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and prioritize market access opportunities and barriers.

  • Assist in the preparation of market access materials, including dossiers, value propositions, and other supporting documents.
