Purpose of Job

To provide technical leadership in Interpretation at sessions and meetings of the Court as well as for translation of the documents of the Court from French language into English language.
 

Main Functions

  • Provide proper, clear, faithful interpretation from French language to English language during sessions and meetings of the Court using the standard, clear and accurate language.
  • Translate properly documents, primarily from French language to English language, ensuring the highest standard of accuracy, and maintaining the spirit, context, quality, technical language and nuances of the original version, using precise, clear and proper terminology.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Check appropriate references to ensure exact understanding and use of AU technical terminologies.
  • Consult colleagues, authors of texts, and specialized technical dictionaries/ glossaries, data banks, etc.
  • Keep abreast with developments in the language field, both in the source and target languages, by compiling and regularly up-dating specific terminologies, phrases, lexicons, acronyms and special expressions in order to widen the stock of vocabulary with the aim of enhancing skills and ability.
  • Help develop terminology/lexicons of the AU.
  • Provide consecutive interpretation, when required, during audiences and of statements at conferences, meetings, discussions, etc.
  • Performs any other duties that may be assigned.

Academic Requirements and Relevant Experience

  • Master’s degree in Interpretation, Languages, Humanities or related discipline and a professional qualification from a recognized interpreters/translators school with ten (10) years of experience in interpretation and translation out of which six (6) years at expert/specialist level

OR

  • Bachelor’ degree in Interpretation, Languages, Humanities or related discipline and a professional qualification from a recognized interpreters/translators school with at least twelve (12) years of experience in interpretation and translation out of which six (6) years at expert/specialist level 
  • Experience in working with legal documents is highly desirable.

TENURE OF APPOINTMENT:

The appointment will be made on a regular term contract for a period of three (3) years, of which the first twelve months shall be considered as a probationary period. Thereafter, the contract will be for a period of two years renewable, subject to satisfactory performance and deliverables.

LANGUAGES:

REMUNERATION:

Indicative basic salary of US$  42,879.00 (P4 Step1) per annum plus other related entitlements e.g. Post adjustment (42% of basic salary), Housing allowance US$  22,320.00 (per annum), and education allowance (100% of tuition and other education-related expenses for every eligible dependent up to a maximum of US$ 10,000.00 per child per annum), for internationally recruited staff and a maximum of $3,300 per child per annum for locally recruited staff.

Purpose of Job

To provide operational support in delivering services of transport and voyages in accordance with the Financial Regulations, the Policies, the Manuals of the African Union, the Decisions, Policies and Management procedures laid down by the Court.
 

Main Functions

  • Helps to apply the provisions of instruments and procedures governing transportation and coverage of travel costs by the Court.
  • Helps to formulate strategies for the optimum management of transportation and travelling.
  • Directs and monitors Court vehicle movements.
  • Controls maintenance and repairs work and consumption of fuels and lubricants in vehicles and generators. 
  • Ensure implementation of the African Union Administrative Policy on Travel and Mission.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Helps to prepare travel documents covered by the Court as well as documents needed for the payment of transport tickets and allowances (air tickets, excess transport claims, terminal service charges, day-to-day subsistence allowances, etc.).
  • Helps verify the completeness, accuracy and validity of travel documents before forwarding them to the Finance Service.
  • Helps coordinate with finance, protocol and administration services all issues relating to travelling and transport (financial issues, visas, other documents).
  • Ensure the maintenance of Court Motor Vehicles and Power Generators.
  • Ensure the smooth functioning of the official travel for staff and other authorized participants during missions, assumption of duty and end of service.
  • Prepare periodic travel reports (monthly, quarterly, and annual).
  • Management of Vehicles on Hire during Court Sessions and Official Meetings.
  • Participate in the Procurement of Car hire and Accommodation Services for Official meetings
  • Performs any other duties that may be assigned.
     

Academic Requirements and Relevant Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Management or in Administration or in Transport and Travel or related disciplines with a minimum of two (2) years of relevant professional experience in a similar position, preferably in an international organization

OR

  • Diploma in Management or in Administration or in Transport and Travel or related disciplines with three (3) years of relevant professional experience in a similar position, preferably in an international organization
