Position.: MP IWS Trainee

Work Group.: 4

Department.: Make Pack

Reporting to.: Make Pack Manager

Purpose

To operate make pack machines to meet equipment daily production KPIs targets while producing high quality cigarettes as per available standards and procedures (Quality Plan, Change Over/ Shift change). You will be a key member of the make pack team delivering IWS standards and requirements to bring our “Factory of the Future” vision to life.

Responsibilities

  • Implement guidelines for Environmental, Health, Safety, and Quality management systems
  • Understand and work with state-of-the-art automated cigarette making and packing machines
  • Key enabler in leading and delivering results against challenges with focus on increasing machine speeds, eliminating machine stops, and reducing rejects  
  • Collaborate with technical experts, and other functions, to create the best solutions that will eliminate losses and inefficiencies at assigned IWS cell
  • Create and improve standards to enable us to achieve the performance targets for the assigned production lines
  • Establish methods for solving technical problems and identify project(s) to achieve the performance targets at assigned production lines
  • Use of Lean Manufacturing methods and management of the PDCA cycle of changes
  • Develop, deliver, and document improvements of existing production processes and technology to digitization/automation

Qualifications

  • Fresh graduates with university degree in engineering. We prefer Mechanical, Electronic, Industrial, and Process Engineering, though we may also consider other engineering field.
  • A desire to work in a fast-paced, hands-on manufacturing environment with operators, technicians, contractors, and equipment
  • Strong thinking/problem-solving skills with a “can-do” attitude and ability to collaborate in teams
  • Highly motivated, self-driven, and eager to learn new skills
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, time management and analytical skills
  • Computer: Good user knowledge of MS Office programs
  • Language: Fluent in oral and written English and Kiswahili

The Agronomy Trainees are fresh graduates from the agriculture background that are trained with JTI in relation to building relationships and providing extension services to all JTI contracted growers to deliver the target crop that ensure we meet or exceed our commitments (Business and sustainability) in line with the business annual strategic plans.  To achieve this the Agronomy Trainee is expected to form a good working relationship with Growers and Primary Society leadership to deliver on their key responsibilities with support from the current line management and mentors under whom they will be working.

 Key Responsibilities

  • Grower contracting: Support to establish the required grower base within the allocated growing area to meet JTI contracting volume and quality needs.                                                                                                      
  • Grower visitations: Visit each contracted grower in each crop cycle to provide extension services, monitor crop production and to secure the contracted tobacco.  These services will include and are not limited to training, monitoring, progress reporting, geotagging, barn program monitoring, afforestation monitoring, NTRM monitoring and other services as required from time to time.                                        
  • Sustainability:
    • PS, Grower and JTI Woodlots: Support to monitor PS, Grower and JTI woodlot establishment throughout the lifecycle
  • Data Management: Participate in accurate and timely data collection as required for each crop phase, including volume (volume, bale, stored bales), forestry and barn data.
  • EHS: Apply Company EHS principles and practices to prevent incidents, actively participate in health and Safety training programs, understand legal and JTI EHS requirements associated with their work.
  • Company assets and security: Maintain and monitor the Company Allocated assets to manufacturer specification or best practices while ensuring the safe use and overall security of all allocated assets (Motorcycle, safety equipment, mobile phones, GPS units, computers, etc.).                                                                                                               
  • Agriculture labour practice: Monitor and manage ALP observations, reporting and follow-up.

Key Requirements:                       

  • Fresh Graduates from the agricultural institute (Mati Tumbi) in tobacco
  • Education Qualification of at least a Degree in General Agriculture or similar fields
  • Tobacco Knowledge is essential for the position
  • Excellent Language proficiency where fluent in spoken and written English and Kiswahili
  • Computer: Basic Internet and Excel Knowledge
