BRAC Tanzania is an equal opportunity employer and is against all forms of exploitation, discrimination, and harassment at the workplace.

BRAC Tanzania Finance Limited is a leading microfinance organisation supporting over 195,000 people with small to medium size loans through 151 branches across 26 regions of the country. Our client portfolio consists of 55 per cent rural population and over 98 per cent women.

Our programmatic interventions include microfinance, education, early childhood development, and empowerment and livelihood for adolescents.

Our early childhood development programme caters to children aged 3-5 from low-income families in Dar es Salaam, Tanga, and Mbeya regions. We use play-based learning methods that stimulate children’s cognitive, physical, emotional, and social development.

We make it possible for girls who had dropped out of school halfway through lower-secondary education to return to school through an approach called the accelerated learning programme (ALP). With ALP, we provide a second-chance to adolescent girls to get access to formal secondary education or vocational training. We also support out-of-school girls by providing them with livelihood, vocational, and financial literacy training. Additionally, we give them access to customised microloans, creating a platform for them to empower themselves financially and socially.

In 2018, we launched a new project called WE SolVE that stands for ‘Women Entrepreneurship through the Solar Value chain for Economic development in Tanzania.’ The project aims to tackle two issues – to reduce unemployment and create economic opportunities for women; and to provide access to clean energy, especially for rural Tanzanians.

The project involves a unique global partnership between BRAC Tanzania and Solar Sister – a non-profit organisation that trains and supports women to deliver clean energy to rural communities together with Signify (formerly known as Philips Lighting) which is a global company offering high quality, reliable and safe lighting products.

In efforts to explore the provision of sustainable water safety and sanitation safety practices that would improve quality of drinking water, we conducted a research on safeguarding portable water provisioning for urban informal settlements in Dar es Salaam. The research project was conducted in collaboration with Lancaster University and a network of institutions, including The University of Manchester, The University of Dhaka, Ardhi University, CSE, WaterAid and DSK. Additionally, the project was funded by the British Academy through its Global Challenge Research Fund.
