The Communication, Advocacy and Partnership (CAP) section at the Tanzania Country Office (TCO) has been working with the aim of expanding UNICEF’s leadership as a credible and trusted voice for children. It engages with stakeholders including the government, development partners, the private sector and media to support shifts in public policy, fuel social engagement and increase private and public resources for children. UNICEF’s country programme envisions a pivotal role for strategic private sector partnerships in achieving programmatic outcomes/goals in support of the Government’s Vision 2050, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
How can you make a difference?
This TA position is based in Dar es Salaam, as part of the Communication, Advocacy and Partnerships Section in UNICEF’s Tanzania Country Office. Under the supervision of the Partnership Specialist and the leadership of the Chief of Communication, Advocacy and Partnerships (CAP), the Private Sector Engagement Specialist will help deepen UNICEF’s collaboration with the private sector and provide an interface for environmental scanning, knowledge exchange, policy influence and partnership with the private sector. The Specialist will lead in updating and implementation of the private sector engagement strategy. S/he will steward and grow existing corporate partnerships as well as identify and develop new major corporate partnerships. The key result is to ensure greater income and influence for UNICEF in support of its mission in Tanzania.
Scope of work
Under the supervision of the Partnership Specialist, the incumbent will:
1. Private sector engagement strategy
Develops and maintains deep knowledge and familiarity of the existing
and prospective private sector partners and other relevant stakeholders
Routinely review and update the private sector engagement strategy based on current trends
Strengthens the private sector engagement strategy to promote Children’s
Rights and Business Principles, Business for Results (B4R) and to
leverage private sector support (resources and influence).
2. Private Sector engagement and partnerships
Scans and scouts the external environment for opportunities and risks, and shares information on current trends;
Advises on engagement with private sector partners
Promotes among associations (employers association, business forums,
sectoral associations and confederations the need to develop regulations
ensuring protection of children’s rights.
3. Internal knowledge management
Tracks engagement with private sector partners and conducts required clearance and due diligence processes
Performs capacity building related duties to ensure the success of the
team, including guiding, training, and coaching short-term staff,
including interns and consultants, as required.
Keeps Country Management Team and relevant UNICEF colleagues informed about the private sector environment
Provides country programme updates with regards to private sector engagement.
4. Support of overall resource mobilization efforts
Identifies, builds and secures Public Private Partnerships (PPP)
Supports the review and quality assurance of external reports and other documents
Performs any other tasks as required

The Private Sector Engagement Specialist is a seasoned professional in the field of external relations, in particular private sector engagement and partnership development.
Education
Advanced university degree (minimum Master’s level) in international
development, international relations, political science, business
administration, marketing or other related field.
Work Experience
A minimum of five (5) years of relevant professional experience in
external relations, fundraising, resource mobilization and/or private
sector engagement related activities
Proven record in engaging with private sector entities
Experience in working for a private sector entity locally or
internationally in the area of corporate social responsibility or
related field is an asset.
Excellent knowledge of English is required with knowledge of another UN language considered as an asset
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
As an asset, demonstrated experience in engaging private sector entities on child right’s issues
Experience in both development and humanitarian contexts is an added advantage
