Responsibilities 

  • Ensure the area to be charged is properly demarcated.
  • Explosive handling – Safely store explosives on bench.
  • Dipping of drilled holes to ensure design parameters are achieved.
  • Priming of the holes to be charged with bulk explosives.
  • Checking initial and final stemming height during the charging process.
  • Ensure correct stemming of blast holes.
  • Spotting the stemming loader operator as the loader traverses the charged pattern.
  • Conduct housekeeping on the charged pattern.
  • To assist with the final tie up of the charged pattern.
  • Acting as a Blast Guard when required.
  • Perform any other related task assigned by supervisor.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities 

Safety

Leadership

Responsibilities 

Safety

  • Impart the culture of safety at North Mara Mining. Lead by example and provide visible access of himself/herself to the employees.
  • Must ensure department’s adherence to safety protocols.
  • All SOP’s.  Procedures must be up to date, distributed, implemented and practiced by all Mine Planning department employees.

Planning

  • Ensure short term plans and designs are completed to the Barrick standards and requirements.
  • Ensure the preparation of monthly and weekly production plans and that all corporate requirements are adhered to.
  • Work in co-operation with the Geology Department for reporting ore reconciliation
  • Ensure that month end reports are completed in a timely manner following all corporate requirements
  • Ensure Mine Plans are timely, reliable, and realistic.
  • Ensure the Mine engineering staff developing the mine plan has correct operational parameters as inputs – and operations staff own the plan once finalized.
  • Display a proactive Sense of Urgency to respond to production shortfalls, and deliver on recovery plans
  • Develop strategies to consistently achieve Mine Plans
  • Provide inputs to support functions to operations (drill designs, drilling QA/QC feedback, Mine2Mill, etc)
  • Open pit designs and scheduling for all pits
  • Presentation of plan for approval/execution
  • Ensure the plan reflects all the audited inputs (e.g. geotechnical slope criteria, cost, revenues, earthmoving productivities, etc)
  • Supervising Mine Engineers to take Barrick operational strategy and translate into tactical budget, long term and short term plans for implementation in line with company’s objectives
  • Review and analyze options to continuously improve designs and operations
  • Mining progress monitoring by providing weekly off-plan plots and monthly off-plan figures reconciliation to approved plan and highlighting deviations to revise mine plans to make them achievable and highlighting any risks to achieving the business plan.
  • Ensuring mine planning systems (software and procedures) and skills required are in-place.

Production

  • Provide technical support to ensure Mine Production and cost budgets are timely, reliable, and realistic.
  • Develop KPI’s to proactively monitor Mining performance
  • Ensure each Mine Planning department employee recognizes the value of their individual contributions – has quantified personal targets and understands them.
  • Install a Sense of Urgency between Mine Engineering, Mine Maintenance and Production to lead North Mara’s success.
  • Utilize information from Jigsaw to effectively to optimize mine productivity and control Mine plans.

Cost Management

  • Regular revision of cost reports to assist in managing the Mining Operations with financial diligence through.
  • Ensuring a rigorous monthly cost review is completed, and variance analysis is delivered to the Superintendent.
  • Manage business processes in compliance to the Company Code of Ethics and compliance to the Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) law and standards.

Qualification requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mining Engineering
  • A management qualification will be beneficial.
