JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Description

North Mara Gold Mine Limited is seeking to recruit  Underground Mechanical Fitter to join and grow their team. You will be expected to align to the Barrick DNA and to operate within our mining assets with our best people teams. You will contribute in a safe and cost-effective manner to achieve targets in accordance with Mine Safety Standards, Policies and Procedures and ensure daily targets are met.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure a healthy and safe working environment for all employees.
  • Maintaining, repairing mechanical issues, diagnostics/Fault Finding and Routine inspection on a variety of Underground machines Coordinate activities in the unit and report to Underground Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Ensure that mobile equipment maintained in a safe and cost effective manner.
  • Ensure all Barrick safe work practices observed and implemented in the department of responsibility.
  • Ensure the preparation and execution of maintenance plans and schedules on the basis of daily, weekly and monthly mining and ore processing priorities.
  • The quality, cost and timeliness of maintenance activities are critical to the project as a whole.
  • Ensure maintenance costs are kept to, or below assigned budget.
  • Display a sense of urgency to ensure timely repair and maintenance of mine equipment.
  • Contribute to the operations by ensuring that all maintenance activities are planned and completed in a cost effective manner with minimal disruption to ore processing and mining activities.
  • Demonstrate commitment to safe work practices by example and act immediately on any unsafe act or situation observed and monitor standards.
  • Actively promote and foster the development of a pro-active site safety behaviors that makes safety an integral part of all work activities.
  • Identify and rectify/report specific hazards using Job Safety Analysis (JSA) process.
  • Assist with accident/incident investigation and with the induction and training of new employees

Qualification requirements

  • A relevant trade qualification in mechanical or Technician Certificate from a recognized institution.
  • A Mechanical Trade Certification is highly desired.

Experience and competencies needed

  • Minimum 5 years post apprenticeship experience working on underground mobile fleet.
  • Experience working on Sandvik and Caterpillar machines is  highly desired
  • Demonstrated competencies in the rebuild and servicing of underground mining mobile equipment’s.
  • Well-developed oral and written communication skills as well as the ability to interact with People of diverse cultures and levels.

 Boilermaker at North Mara Gold Mine Limited

 Responsibilities

  • Ensure safe work practices, i.e. attending compulsory safety courses and meetings, use of required PPE, incident/accident reporting and ensuring total adherence to all Safety, Occupational Health and Environmental Policies, as well as other relevant policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Perform task risk assessments (JHA, FLRA).
  • Ensure the plant operates within acceptable limits and deviations reported.
  • Adhere to isolation and lock out permits procedures.
  • Adhere to workplace safety policies, regulations and compliances.
  • Performs high quality, planned and unplanned repairs of any mechanical equipment in compliance with applicable codes, standards, safety and environment regulation.
  • Maintaining a clean and environmental safe work area, apply 5S principle
  • Attain and maintain relevant licenses and authorizations required to execute allocated duties e.g. Basic Rigging, Working at Heights, machine operation i.e. forklift.
  • Fabricate and assemble metal structures and equipment with welders, cutters, shapers and measuring tools.
  • Fabricate, weld and install chutes, boxes, pipes, reducers, bends and Y piece.
  • Repair and maintain metal equipment and structures of various sizes.
  • Read and interpret diagrams, sketches and blueprints to determine operations, required materials and time frames for projects.
  • Apply best maintenance practice on repair of chutes, steel tanks, pipes and steel structures.
  • Apply standard paint on new steel structure and any repair on steel works.
  • Assess welded surfaces, structures and components to identify errors.
  • Examine pressure vessels, tanks, chutes, pipes to locate defects such as leaks, weak spots, and defective sections so that they are repaired.
  • Fabricate, fit, and assemble the structural components of various mechanical systems.
  • Perform any task as instructed by report line supervisor.
  • Perform basic mechanical fitting, rubber lining, scaffolding and rigging works as instructed by your supervisor.
  • Clean equipment, using scrapers, wire brushes, and cleaning solvents to ensure equipment or work area remains clean and tidy.
  • Clean, maintain, repair and rebuild mechanical parts, components and equipment as directed by the Supervisor.
  • Conduct regular plant and steel structures inspections.
  • Complete breakdown and preventive maintenance work orders on time, create subsequent notifications, and provide feedback on work performed
  • Removes defective parts by dismantling devices; using hoists, cranes, and hand and power tools; examining form and texture of parts
  • Maintains equipment, parts, and supplies inventories by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed equipment, parts, and supplies then organize with supervisor
  • Maintains continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
  • Responsible for shift handover at area of responsibility.

Qualification requirements

  • Technical/ Vocational School, Apprenticeship training, on-the-job training (FTC, VETA, IMTT Trade Test or its Equivalent).
  • Sound knowledge of Mining Safety Regulations and best practice.

Experience and Competencies needed

  • Minimum 5 years post apprenticeship experience working on Heavy Mobile Equipment in surface operations.
  • Plant maintenance experience on Mills, crushers, conveyors, compressors, pumps, CIL tanks etc.
  • Working knowledge of safety standards of equipment.
  • Previous maintenance experience in industrialized plant is beneficial.   
  • Experience using multiple welding machines including the arc welder, TIG and MIG.
  • Excellent knowledge of welding machinery, electrical equipment, and manual tools.
  • Experience in open cast and Underground mining essential.

 Underground Remote Technician Trainer at North Mara Gold Mine Limited 

 Responsibilities

  • Ensure a healthy and safe working environment for all employees.
  • Maintaining, repairing electrical issues, diagnostics / Fault Finding and routine inspection on a variety of Remote systems (I.e. SANDVIK and RCT) and UG Machines.(I.e. SANDVIK and CAT)

  • Minimum of 8 years’ Artisanal experience in mine auto electrical maintenance role..
  • Good working knowledge of auto electrical maintenance planning/scheduling.

  • Well-developed oral and written communication skills as well as the ability to interact with People of diverse cultures and levels.

 Serviceman – Paste Construction Crew at North Mara Gold Mine Limited 

 Responsibilities

  • Construction of underground backfill systems Underground Paste parricide, and application of  shotcrete and concrete placement  
  • Responsible for underground Paste pipes, piping loops, support system, and other services for paste fill infrastructure.
  • Multi-skill operator (IT, Scissor, Jackleg, Stopper are mandatory) operating and handling various mining equipment’s to preform the services installation without additional support.
  •  Fabricate pipe spool pieces, support structures and other custom metal works for services infrastructure.
  • Ability to conduct Job Safety Analysis for designated tasks, equipment’s and other assignments under supervision

 About North Mara

The North Mara gold Mine is located in north-west Tanzania in the Tarime district of the Mara region. It is around 100 kilometres east of Lake Victoria and 20 kilometres south of the Kenyan border.

North Mara started commercial production in 2002. The mine is a combined open pit and underground operation from two deposits, Gokona (underground) and Nyabirama (open pit).

 Responsibilities

  • Ensure safe work practices, i.e. attending compulsory safety courses and meetings, use of required PPE, incident/accident reporting and ensuring total adherence to all Safety, Occupational Health and Environmental Policies, as well as other relevant policies, procedures and guidelines.

  •  Carry out troubleshooting, fault finding and corrective maintenance in order to solve unplanned equipment unavailability events.

  • Optimize cost by ensuring expenditure for electrical work is not exceeding the budget; support reduction of wastage and repair before replacing parts where possible.

Generator – Auto Electrician at North Mara Gold Mine Limited 

Responsibilities

  • Ensure safe work practices by attending compulsory safety courses and meetings, use of required PPE, incident/accident reporting and ensuring total adherence to all Safety, Occupational Health and Environmental Policies, as well as other policies, procedures and guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Perform major overhauls and services on refrigeration systems and related equipment by adjusting, repairing and or replacing worn or broken parts.
  • Installation of all types of domestic air-conditioning systems.

  • Ensure that refrigeration helpers are actively involved with regular routine maintenance.
  • Maintain stock levels of critical spares for essential Refrigeration systems

  • Braze or solder parts to repair defective joints and leaks.
  • Observe and test system operation, using gauges and instruments.
  • Test lines, components, and connections for leaks.

  • Repair or replace defective parts in units and equipment and their controls, including thermostats, automatic switches, fan controls, log switches, damper motors, louvers, relays, filters, controls, belts, compressors, heat exchangers, high limit controls, pressure controls, safety valves, and automatic gas valves
  • Operate a variety of hand and power tools, welder torch, vacuum pump, test equipment utilized in the trade and a motor vehicle; maintain equipment in effective and safe working condition; maintain parts and tool inventory.
  • Repair and rebuild semi-hermetic reciprocating compressors and compressors for centrifugal refrigeration machines.

Qualification requirements

  • Refrigeration Trade Certification/ Full Technician’s Certificate/ VETA Grade one.
  • Sound knowledge of Mining Safety Regulations and best practice.

Experience and competencies needed

  • 2-3 years in a Maintenance role responsible for Refrigeration systems
  • Experience in installation of Refrigeration and Air Condition systems for projects

 Water Treatment Operator at North Mara Gold Mine Limited

 Responsibilities

  • Ensure safe work practices by attending compulsory safety courses and meetings, use of required PPE, incident/accident reporting and ensuring total adherence to all Safety, Occupational Health and Environmental Policies, as well as other policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Responsible for monitoring of flows and feed processes/water quality into the plant circuits.          
  • Ensure all personnel on plant adhere to safety regulations and use the correct PPE
  • Report all Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) issues to Supervisor and Superintendent.
  • Ensure the plant operates within acceptable limits and deviations are reported immediately.
  • Assist with chemical dose adjustments in response to changing water quality parameters.
  • Maintain day to day operations necessary to meet quality effluent water for discharge
  • Proactively identifying and acting on plant performance deviation.
  • Supervise/or perform CIPs (Clean in place) on the advanced process units of the Water Treatment Plant Rama and Gokona.
  • Monitor plant performance and ensure that log sheets are completed.
  • Performing a variety of routine and special chemical, physical, bacteriological, and related tests on water system samples.
  • Aiding other plant personnel regarding basic laboratory procedures; equipment maintenance and lab supplies.
  • Maintenance of equipment and supplies and disposal of outdated chemicals.
  • Interpreting laboratory analyses, making recommendations, maintaining logs and records, and preparing data for reports.
  • Developing new test procedures and conducting special analytical studies relating to process control, or other applicable matters.
  • Maintaining computerized monitoring, laboratory analysis, quality assurance, and operation records; entering data on a computer; evaluating and managing data from such programs which are related to laboratory operations.
  • Maintain laboratory inventory of chemicals, analytical equipment, and data sheets.

Qualification requirements

  • Full Technician Certificate Water Management System.
  • Must hold a Valid Tanzania Driving License

Experience and competencies needed

  • 1-2 Years – Post qualified experience in Water Quality Management, Water Processing , Laboratory Quality Analysis Experiences

ABOUT THE TEAM

The North Mara gold mine is located in north-west Tanzania in the Tarime district of the Mara region. It is around 100 kilometres east of Lake Victoria and 20 kilometres south of the Kenyan border.

North Mara started commercial production in 2002. The mine is a combined open pit and underground operation from two deposits, Gokona (underground) and Nyabirama (open pit). The process plant has the capacity to process an average of 8,000 tonnes of ore per day.
