JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Description
North Mara Gold Mine Limited is seeking to recruit Underground Mechanical Fitter to join and grow their team. You will be expected to align to the Barrick DNA and to operate within our mining assets with our best people teams. You will contribute in a safe and cost-effective manner to achieve targets in accordance with Mine Safety Standards, Policies and Procedures and ensure daily targets are met.

Responsibilities
- Ensure a healthy and safe working environment for all employees.
- Maintaining, repairing mechanical issues, diagnostics/Fault Finding and Routine inspection on a variety of Underground machines Coordinate activities in the unit and report to Underground Maintenance Supervisor.

- Ensure the preparation and execution of maintenance plans and schedules on the basis of daily, weekly and monthly mining and ore processing priorities.

- Ensure maintenance costs are kept to, or below assigned budget.
- Display a sense of urgency to ensure timely repair and maintenance of mine equipment.
- Contribute to the operations by ensuring that all maintenance activities are planned and completed in a cost effective manner with minimal disruption to ore processing and mining activities.
- Demonstrate commitment to safe work practices by example and act immediately on any unsafe act or situation observed and monitor standards.
- Actively promote and foster the development of a pro-active site safety behaviors that makes safety an integral part of all work activities.
- Identify and rectify/report specific hazards using Job Safety Analysis (JSA) process.
- Assist with accident/incident investigation and with the induction and training of new employees
Qualification requirements
- A relevant trade qualification in mechanical or Technician Certificate from a recognized institution.
- A Mechanical Trade Certification is highly desired.
Experience and competencies needed
- Minimum 5 years post apprenticeship experience working on underground mobile fleet.
- Experience working on Sandvik and Caterpillar machines is highly desired
- Demonstrated competencies in the rebuild and servicing of underground mining mobile equipment’s.
- Well-developed oral and written communication skills as well as the ability to interact with People of diverse cultures and levels.

Boilermaker at North Mara Gold Mine Limited
Responsibilities
- Ensure safe work practices, i.e. attending compulsory safety courses and meetings, use of required PPE, incident/accident reporting and ensuring total adherence to all Safety, Occupational Health and Environmental Policies, as well as other relevant policies, procedures and guidelines.
- Perform task risk assessments (JHA, FLRA).
- Ensure the plant operates within acceptable limits and deviations reported.
- Adhere to isolation and lock out permits procedures.
- Adhere to workplace safety policies, regulations and compliances.
- Performs high quality, planned and unplanned repairs of any mechanical equipment in compliance with applicable codes, standards, safety and environment regulation.
- Maintaining a clean and environmental safe work area, apply 5S principle
- Attain and maintain relevant licenses and authorizations required to execute allocated duties e.g. Basic Rigging, Working at Heights, machine operation i.e. forklift.
- Fabricate and assemble metal structures and equipment with welders, cutters, shapers and measuring tools.
- Fabricate, weld and install chutes, boxes, pipes, reducers, bends and Y piece.
- Repair and maintain metal equipment and structures of various sizes.
- Read and interpret diagrams, sketches and blueprints to determine operations, required materials and time frames for projects.
- Apply best maintenance practice on repair of chutes, steel tanks, pipes and steel structures.
- Apply standard paint on new steel structure and any repair on steel works.
- Assess welded surfaces, structures and components to identify errors.
- Examine pressure vessels, tanks, chutes, pipes to locate defects such as leaks, weak spots, and defective sections so that they are repaired.
- Fabricate, fit, and assemble the structural components of various mechanical systems.
- Perform any task as instructed by report line supervisor.
- Perform basic mechanical fitting, rubber lining, scaffolding and rigging works as instructed by your supervisor.
- Clean equipment, using scrapers, wire brushes, and cleaning solvents to ensure equipment or work area remains clean and tidy.
- Clean, maintain, repair and rebuild mechanical parts, components and equipment as directed by the Supervisor.
- Conduct regular plant and steel structures inspections.
- Complete breakdown and preventive maintenance work orders on time, create subsequent notifications, and provide feedback on work performed
- Removes defective parts by dismantling devices; using hoists, cranes, and hand and power tools; examining form and texture of parts
- Maintains equipment, parts, and supplies inventories by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed equipment, parts, and supplies then organize with supervisor
- Maintains continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
- Responsible for shift handover at area of responsibility.
Qualification requirements
- Technical/ Vocational School, Apprenticeship training, on-the-job training (FTC, VETA, IMTT Trade Test or its Equivalent).
- Sound knowledge of Mining Safety Regulations and best practice.
Experience and Competencies needed
- Minimum 5 years post apprenticeship experience working on Heavy Mobile Equipment in surface operations.
- Plant maintenance experience on Mills, crushers, conveyors, compressors, pumps, CIL tanks etc.
- Working knowledge of safety standards of equipment.
- Previous maintenance experience in industrialized plant is beneficial.
- Experience using multiple welding machines including the arc welder, TIG and MIG.
- Excellent knowledge of welding machinery, electrical equipment, and manual tools.
- Experience in open cast and Underground mining essential.

Underground Remote Technician Trainer at North Mara Gold Mine Limited
Responsibilities
- Ensure a healthy and safe working environment for all employees.
- Maintaining, repairing electrical issues, diagnostics / Fault Finding and routine inspection on a variety of Remote systems (I.e. SANDVIK and RCT) and UG Machines.(I.e. SANDVIK and CAT)
- Coordinate activities in the unit and report back to Mobile Maintenance Superintendent.
- Ensure that mobile equipment is maintained in a safe and cost effective manner.
- Develop workforce to maintain the underground mines mobile equipment fleet.
- Ensure safe working practices and Hazard identification principles and processes are observed by subordinates at all times.
- Involvement with developing training programs for national workforce and carrying out competency assessments.
- Demonstrate commitment to safe work practices by example and act immediately on any unsafe act or situation observed and monitor standards.
- Full compliance with the OEM repair procedures and all safety and training protocols.
- Complete all training module within the auto electrical and maintenance skills matrix program.
- Monitor mine underground auto electrical activities and eliminate any wasteful practices, ensuring agreed target for maintenance are met.
- Support and work through the departmental tactical plans to achieve the overall business objective.
- Developing and managing equipment component change outs and rebuilds where necessary.
- Investigate and implement latest technology that will improve auto electrical works.
Qualification requirements
- A relevant trade qualification in mechanical or Technician Certificate from a recognized institution.
- A Mechanical Trade Certification is highly desired
Experience and competencies needed
- Minimum of 8 years’ Artisanal experience in mine auto electrical maintenance role..
- Good working knowledge of auto electrical maintenance planning/scheduling.
- Experienced in maintenance practices and techniques.

Serviceman – Paste Construction Crew at North Mara Gold Mine Limited
Responsibilities
- Construction of underground backfill systems Underground Paste parricide, and application of shotcrete and concrete placement
- Responsible for underground Paste pipes, piping loops, support system, and other services for paste fill infrastructure.
- Multi-skill operator (IT, Scissor, Jackleg, Stopper are mandatory) operating and handling various mining equipment’s to preform the services installation without additional support.
- Fabricate pipe spool pieces, support structures and other custom metal works for services infrastructure.
- Ability to conduct Job Safety Analysis for designated tasks, equipment’s and other assignments under supervision
- Communicate and coordinate with Engineering and Production departments to ensure that paste filling design, schedules and other mining production services systems in an effective manner.
- Attends the daily safety and production meetings, services line ups with services supervisor
- Demonstrate high level of Safe Work Practices and team culture at the work place.
Qualification Requirements
- Secondary Education and IMTT/VETA Trade Qualification
- Diploma in Mining, Civil Engineering and mechanical engineering will be an added advantage

Diesel Mechanic at North Mara Gold Mine Limited
About North Mara
The North Mara gold Mine is located in north-west Tanzania in the Tarime district of the Mara region. It is around 100 kilometres east of Lake Victoria and 20 kilometres south of the Kenyan border.
North Mara started commercial production in 2002. The mine is a combined open pit and underground operation from two deposits, Gokona (underground) and Nyabirama (open pit).
Responsibilities
- Ensure safe work practices, i.e. attending compulsory safety courses and meetings, use of required PPE, incident/accident reporting and ensuring total adherence to all Safety, Occupational Health and Environmental Policies, as well as other relevant policies, procedures and guidelines.
- Follow all maintenance procedures, and ensure the completion of mechanical activities according to standard without causing any further damage to any component / system / equipment.
- Ensure equipment isolation, adhere to working at height and confined space standards/ procedures, and conduct pre-start checks/ inspections.
- Carry out mechanical repair and preventative maintenance to maintain Plant &Light Vehicle equipment in a safe and efficient manner to achieve production and cost targets.
- Carry out troubleshooting, fault finding and corrective maintenance in order to solve unplanned equipment unavailability events.
- Ensure that maintenance practices result in maximum equipment availability.
- Utilize work instructions to determine job requirements, including job sheets, quality and quantity of materials/ resources etc.
- Perform PM inspection according to the maintenance requirements and ensure preventive maintenance compliance.
- Conduct Mobile and Plant equipment upgrades/ modification as required.
- Removal of pump components & replacement.
- Provide accurate and timely feedback to the Light vehicle Supervisor on conditions that may affect functionality of equipment.
- Ensure Light vehicle Supervisor and all stakeholders are kept informed of equipment availability status.
- Identification of mechanical equipment and resources, and selection and inspection of tools/ equipment.
- Follow up of outstanding maintenance/ repairs.

- Completion of assigned work in a safe and timely manner, with minimum supervision and to an internationally acceptable standard.
- Provide accurate and timely feedback to the Maintenance First Line Leader on conditions that may affect functionality of equipment.

- Maintain equipment integrity and equipment availability.

Responsibilities

- Install and maintain single phase motors and three phase Induction Motors 0.37kw up to 6000kw.

- DOL, Soft starter, Liquid resistance starter, Auto-transformer starter, star-delta, PLC Programming

- Ensure compliance to Standard Operating Procedures for safe work daily when performing Isolation,
- Lockout, when working at confined space, working at height, lifting & rigging etc.
- Conduct scheduled equipment inspections on a daily, weekly, monthly and ensure identified defects are reported within the shift in accordance to the specific Standard Operating Procedure.
- Ensure compliance to Equipment Preventive Maintenance Schedule and duty performed effectively and accordingly on a daily basis.
- Respond to calls on breakdowns and give them first priority and manage them as soon as practically possible.
- Ensure inspection of Measuring/ Testing Instruments is conducted on a daily basis prior to use and Calibrations are performed to OEM schedule or when required.
- Use, Interpret OEM Manuals for maintaining and repairing of required equipment accurately and to OEM Specifications and avoid discrepancies.
- Ensure daily assigned Electrical tasks are implemented effectively and efficiently; and are completed to required standards.
- Ensure all required power tools and hand tools are inspected and maintained daily.
- Execute all new Domestic Electrical installations efficiently every day and ensure compliance to Standard Operating Procedures while working.
- Ensure compliance to Standard Operating Procedures for all Electrical Maintenance and Repair work conducted daily.
- Ensure all Equipment used is kept safely and correctly at all times.
- Optimize cost by ensuring expenditure for electrical work is not exceeding the budget; support reduction of wastage and repair before replacing parts where possible.

Generator – Auto Electrician at North Mara Gold Mine Limited
Responsibilities
- Ensure safe work practices by attending compulsory safety courses and meetings, use of required PPE, incident/accident reporting and ensuring total adherence to all Safety, Occupational Health and Environmental Policies, as well as other policies, procedures and guidelines.
- Troubleshoots and repairs alternating current electrical systems on generators, automatic transfer switches, generator controls and engine related mechanical failures; and performs routine preventative maintenance, oil and filter changes and inspections on all Mine generators.
- Maintains inventory of spare parts and initiates procurement of replacement supplies and equipment as necessary; makes cost and material estimates; collects data for preventive maintenance system; maintains activity logs and completes work orders and reports as needed
- Inspects maintains and repairs generator sets and diesel driven pumps
- Overhauls and rebuilds generators
- Handle responsibilities of maintaining logs, records and various files related to technical information
- Carry out troubleshooting, fault finding and corrective maintenance in order to solve unplanned equipment unavailability events.

Refrigeration Technician at North Mara Gold Mine Limited
Responsibilities
- Ensure safe work practices by attending compulsory safety courses and meetings, use of required PPE, incident/accident reporting and ensuring total adherence to all Safety, Occupational Health and Environmental Policies, as well as other policies, procedures and guidelines.
- Perform major overhauls and services on refrigeration systems and related equipment by adjusting, repairing and or replacing worn or broken parts.
- Installation of all types of domestic air-conditioning systems.
- Maintain records of repairs and equipment requiring future service.
- Ensure that refrigeration helpers are actively involved with regular routine maintenance.
- Maintain stock levels of critical spares for essential Refrigeration systems
- Performs other work as required in support of general maintenance activity.
- Braze or solder parts to repair defective joints and leaks.
- Observe and test system operation, using gauges and instruments.
- Test lines, components, and connections for leaks.
- Read blueprints to determine location, size, capacity, and type of components needed to build refrigeration system.
- Install wiring to connect components to an electric power source.
- Perform mechanical overhauls and refrigerant reclaiming.
- Adjust valves according to specifications and charge system with proper type of refrigerant by pumping the specified gas or fluid into the system
- Lay out reference points for installation of structural and functional components, using measuring instruments
- Mount compressor, condenser, and other components in specified locations on frames, using hand tools and acetylene welding equipment

- Perform necessary repairs and routine maintenance.
- Conduct regular preventive maintenance inspections of refrigeration units, isolated heating and ventilating units, including boilers, gas and electrically operated air-conditioning equipment, and make necessary adjustments or repairs; service and repair evaporative coolers.
- Repair or replace defective parts in units and equipment and their controls, including thermostats, automatic switches, fan controls, log switches, damper motors, louvers, relays, filters, controls, belts, compressors, heat exchangers, high limit controls, pressure controls, safety valves, and automatic gas valves
- Operate a variety of hand and power tools, welder torch, vacuum pump, test equipment utilized in the trade and a motor vehicle; maintain equipment in effective and safe working condition; maintain parts and tool inventory.
- Repair and rebuild semi-hermetic reciprocating compressors and compressors for centrifugal refrigeration machines.

- Refrigeration Trade Certification/ Full Technician’s Certificate/ VETA Grade one.
- Sound knowledge of Mining Safety Regulations and best practice.
Experience and competencies needed

Water Treatment Operator at North Mara Gold Mine Limited
Responsibilities
- Ensure safe work practices by attending compulsory safety courses and meetings, use of required PPE, incident/accident reporting and ensuring total adherence to all Safety, Occupational Health and Environmental Policies, as well as other policies, procedures and guidelines.
- Responsible for monitoring of flows and feed processes/water quality into the plant circuits.

- Ensure the plant operates within acceptable limits and deviations are reported immediately.
- Assist with chemical dose adjustments in response to changing water quality parameters.
- Maintain day to day operations necessary to meet quality effluent water for discharge
- Proactively identifying and acting on plant performance deviation.
- Supervise/or perform CIPs (Clean in place) on the advanced process units of the Water Treatment Plant Rama and Gokona.
- Monitor plant performance and ensure that log sheets are completed.
- Performing a variety of routine and special chemical, physical, bacteriological, and related tests on water system samples.
- Aiding other plant personnel regarding basic laboratory procedures; equipment maintenance and lab supplies.
- Maintenance of equipment and supplies and disposal of outdated chemicals.
- Interpreting laboratory analyses, making recommendations, maintaining logs and records, and preparing data for reports.
- Developing new test procedures and conducting special analytical studies relating to process control, or other applicable matters.
- Maintaining computerized monitoring, laboratory analysis, quality assurance, and operation records; entering data on a computer; evaluating and managing data from such programs which are related to laboratory operations.
- Maintain laboratory inventory of chemicals, analytical equipment, and data sheets.
Qualification requirements
- Full Technician Certificate Water Management System.
- Must hold a Valid Tanzania Driving License
Experience and competencies needed
- 1-2 Years – Post qualified experience in Water Quality Management, Water Processing , Laboratory Quality Analysis Experiences

ABOUT THE TEAM
The North Mara gold mine is located in north-west Tanzania in the Tarime district of the Mara region. It is around 100 kilometres east of Lake Victoria and 20 kilometres south of the Kenyan border.
North Mara started commercial production in 2002. The mine is a combined open pit and underground operation from two deposits, Gokona (underground) and Nyabirama (open pit). The process plant has the capacity to process an average of 8,000 tonnes of ore per day.
