Position Summary

Ifakara Health Institute is looking for qualified and experienced candidate to join the TB research team in Bagamoyo as Research Officer. The Officer will work as laboratory technologist, performing routine experimental laboratory tests, mainly in the fields of TB laboratory, Molecular Biology and Microbiology according to standard operating procedures (SOPs), GCLP and the study protocol. The Research Officer will be required to produce reliable and precise data for scientific investigations. Adhering strictly to safety and hygiene instructions to prevent accidents and exposure to hazardous material in Bagamoyo.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design, prepare and carry out studies involving laboratory
  • Prepare and review laboratory standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Maintain adequate inventory of laboratory supplies and equipment for day-to-day

Position Summary

Ifakara Health Institute is looking for a qualified and experienced candidate to take the position of Research Officer in the PanACEA II – SUDOCU trial at Mwananyamala Regional Referral Hospital in Dar es Salaam. The Officer will be responsible for recruitment and making follow ups of study participants, including giving clinical care of any medical condition as presented by study participants. The Officer will also supervise medical attendants and field workers so that activities at the TB clinic runs smoothly.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Screen patients and ensure all study related forms are properly and accurately filled and data is entered on daily in electronic data capturing
  • Enroll patients to the study, follow-up and provision of clinical care to all study participants
  • Manage patients and respond to queries, concerns and issues raised by the supervisor/principal investigator or a
  • Identify and manage adverse and severe adverse events and ensure that participant’s privacy and

confidentiality are maintained.

Position Summary

Ifakara Health Institute is looking for qualified candidates to serve as Interns in the following research areas: Urban Planning, Urban Governance, GIS Analyst, Health, Education, Statistics, Epidemiology, and Social Sciences. This position is intended to support junior researchers and academicians take their carrier to the next level and prepare them for hands-on employment opportunities in future.

While the Interns will be linked with researchers within the department of Health Systems, Impact Evaluation and Policy, the Sustainable Health and Learning Cities’ Project will host them and build their capacity in contributing to the attainment of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s): Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages (SDG 3); Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all (SDG 4); and Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable (SDG 11).

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage large quantitative and qualitative dataset across 14 cities in 7 countries (Tanzania, Rwanda, South Africa, Philippines, Bangladesh, China, and India).
  • Take part in basic training and engage in data management, analysis and writing of scientific publications for the period of 3 to 5 months (November 2021-March 2022).
  • The internship program will involve physical and zoom meetings. Therefore, applicants are expected to own personal computers/laptops.
