Multiple technical leads


Chemonics seeks multiple technical leads for an anticipated multi-year DFID education programme in Tanzania, Shule Bora. The programme seeks to improve quality, inclusiveness, and safety of learning for all 11.5 million girls and boys in government pre-primary and primary schools in Tanzania. In addition to providing support to government systems at the national level, Shule Bora will provide additional focused support to an estimated 4.4 million children in nine regions. Technical leads will be based in Dodoma and will work closely governmental and other key stakeholders to achieve programme objectives in technical areas of focus. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.

Chemonics seeks specialists with experience working on pre-primary and primary-school education programmes and expertise in some or all of the following technical areas:
  • Pre-primary and primary-education reform using a systems approach
  • Teacher professional development (pre-service and in-service); teacher recruitment, retention, and performance management; school quality assurance, focusing on inclusive teaching and learning at the school, community, and district levels
  • Community engagement, including methods to increase accountability and learning
  • School leadership and management
  • Data use for decision-making
  • System-level reforms and national-level support to ministries including public financial management, payment by results, fiduciary risk, education management information systems, resource planning, budgeting, internal monitoring and reporting, quality assurance, and change management
  • Gender-sensitive pedagogy and interventions for empowering girls
  • Interventions to reduce violence and produce safe school environments
  • Interventions to support children with disabilities to access schools and learn
  • Monitoring and evaluation and knowledge management
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in education, social science, international development, or a related discipline required. Advanced degree in education or relevant discipline preferred
  • Minimum 10 years of professional experience in one or more of the technical areas listed above
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and develop partnerships with governments and local organisations
  • Experience working with DFID or other donor–funded education projects
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Experience in Tanzania or East Africa required
  • Knowledge of the Tanzanian education sector and key national stakeholders preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
  • Fluency in English required. Working knowledge of Swahili preferred
