Duties and responsibilities


  • Drive staff and NRC visitors on official duties, on instruction by Fleet-in-Charge
  • Maintain a logbook for all trips undertaken
  • Pick, drop and circulate mail, letters, contracts, proposals, documents and cargo/materials to the required destination
  • Operate the NRC designated vehicle in accordance with NRC policies and procedures
  • Maintain assigned NRC vehicle in proper operating condition at all times including fueling, securing, cleaning, timely minor repairs and reporting to the Fleet Supervisor of required major repairs
  • In liaison with the Fleet In-Charge arrange for major repairs and servicing of the assigned vehicle at the right intervals.
  • Ensure the assigned vehicle has all the required legal and other documents and equipment including vehicle insurance, vehicle licenses, vehicle logs, first aid kit and necessary spare parts and tools
  • Report immediately eventualities like accidents and breakdowns
  • Assist as assigned by the Fleet In-Charge, in preparing of fleet related reports
  • Ensure that all the necessary records and forms related to the assigned vehicles are properly filled and filed as required by NRC policies.
  • Drive NRC vehicle on approved routes/roads as well as parking them in secure designated areas.
Qualifications
  • Certificate of Secondary Education (CSE) or equivalent
  • Driving License, Class C obtained from a certified driving school.
  • Ability to chauffer Senior NRC staff and high profile visitors.
  • Good language skills (English/Swahili) – Both written and spoken.
  • Basic computer literacy will be an added advantage

WASH Technical Assistant (Sanitation)

  • Conduct post construction inspection of the already constructed latrines before issuance of completion certificates.

NRC Tanzania is looking for WASH Assistant – Water supply base at Kibondo, Kigoma

Being an employee of the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) in Tanzania, the WASH Assistant is expected to represent NRC in a responsible manner and always act in accordance with NRC’s Code of Contact.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Supervise masons, contractors and unskilled labourer’s during repairs and construction of WASH related facilities (water tap-stands, valve chambers, operator sheds, pipe installations & repairs and other water works).
  • Tracking construction materials supplied and utilized during construction
  • Monitor closely bursts, leakages and repairs in the water supply network and lead, manage skilled & unskilled work force to maintaining the water facilities
  • Responsible for the safe keeping of all water supply tools and materials and at the same time tracking and keeping records on the same
  • Supervise the borehole attendants/operators to ensure un-interrupted water supply to the beneficiaries
  • Provide technical support to the borehole attendants, tap-stand monitors and WASH Committees in the daily operations and on O&M
  • Leads the repair team in pressure regulation for equitable portable water distribution in the reticulation system, in line with the set water regime and SPHERE/UNCHR standards
  • In collaboration with the WASH Project Officer and WASH Committees work out practical ways of ensuring equitable distribution of water in the camp
  • On a daily and weekly basis record and report to supervisor all the works done in the field
  • Update and keep record and data on the daily water production monitoring sheet and submitting it to WASH Project Officer on a weekly basis for reporting.
  • Inspect and certify any pipe repair work done by the repair team before backfilling the soil to ensure quality workmanship is maintained
  • Approve trench excavations done by contractors to ensure correct depth and width is achieved before pipe installation commences
  • Work together with WASH Committees, Community leadership in the field in identification of problematic areas of water reticulation systems with a view of providing sustainable solutions
  • Ensure FRC levels are maintained within the acceptable range at the source and tap-stand levels by spontaneous monitoring and sampling.
  • Collaborate with other agencies staff during field discussions
  • Any other assignment as may be required by the WASH Officer or WASH Coordinator.
  • Lead in responding to bursts and leakages in the entire pipeline system
  • Supervise laying of pipes and repair of water reticulation system

Qualifications
  • A minimum of Three or five years proven experience for degree or Diploma holder respectively in working/programming in either relief or development including managing a large-scale Community based water project with evidence of successful implementation of similar projects

Protection Officer


NRC Tanzania is looking for Protection Officer  base at Kibondo, Kigoma .
The purpose of the Protection Officer position is to support the Area Manager with protection mainstreaming within the area of intervention in line with NRC’s Protection Policy and global protection standards

  • The Protection Officer will support programme and support teams through the development of protection mainstreaming tools and provide guidance to ensure protection is integrated with programme cycle management and during project implementation and evaluation. S/he will support staff and partners’ capacity building through trainings and awareness raising sessions on NRC’s Protection Policy and minimum protection standards.
  • The Protection Officer will identify gaps in terms of field-based protection and support conducting of programme/project protection risk assessments.  S/he will hold regular meetings with NRC colleagues to ensure quality and adequate NRC’s response to affected population. Qualifications
  • A University degree in law, social science, political science or related subject will be considered

WASH Assistant- Pump Mechanic (2 positions)


NRC Tanzania is looking for qualified Wash assistant -Plant Mechanic base at Kibondo
Main purpose of the position is to ensure effective planning and quality implementation of the water supply activities in Kibondo camps. The Plant Mechanics will participate in preparation of regular accurate reports on the boreholes yields, daily production, fuel consumption and running hours of the gensets.

Duties and responsibilities
To keep records of all the repairs those have been done in the field and in the workshop as well the running hours of the gensets to ensure timely servicing.

To keep records on all the spares which have been used in the workshop and in the field.
To prepare monthly reports on jobs and conditions of all the relevant system.
Supporting the WASH officer-Sources in procurement of the necessary fast-moving spare parts, and working tools for the repair of the gensets and pumps.
To participate in recruitment of boreholes attendants and operators and ensure they are well trained. Supervise and ensure all electrical works are well maintained.
Servicing and preventive maintenance on all the boreholes and compound gensets.
Major overhaul of gensets upon breakdowns and during hourly schedule.
Respond to breakdowns and do repairs of the gensets in the field.
Ensure cleanliness is maintained and safety of the gensets in the field.
Qualifications
Qualifications in mechanical engineering field and experience in the management of generators, pumps and accessories.
Proven practical experience in the planning and execution of WASH Programmes of at least 3 years the management of generators, pumps and accessories. Ability to maintain vehicles is an added advantage.

WASH Assistant -Water Quality Monitoring

Records daily information from water quality monitors.
Ensures that chlorine solution is prepared in the required percentage and in the right quantities. Performs all duties of the water quality analyst at his /her absence
Carries out weekly assessment of FRC of each reticulating line tap stands and house hold levels aimed at maintaining UNHCR standard of 0.5 mg /l at every tap stand and 0.2 mg/l at house hold levels.
Collect sample for bacteriological analysis on monthly basis and analysis of the samples. Samples for analysis are collected from high risk areas .This includes blocks prone to cholera outbreaks and new influx areas.
Qualifications
Diploma or Higher National Diploma in water engineering, Analytical chemistry Analytical lab or any other relevant course from a recognized institution
Experience in WASH Programmes of at least 3 years’ experience in a humanitarian and development programme preferably with an NGO
Personal qualities
The ability to perform water quality sampling, analysis and assist in water quality investigations and quality assurance programs.
The ability to assist with programming and coordinating water quality monitoring.
Competent computer skills with proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook and email communications
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, good laboratory work skills, ability to think and operate independently, and considerable concentration and creativity.

Contract period is for 12 months with possibility of extension.
