Bulyanhulu Gold Mine is seeking a skilled TSF Superintendent – RTFE (Responsible Tailings Facility Engineer) to join our team and contribute to the safe, efficient and sustainable management of our Tailings Storage Facility (TSF).

Responsibilities:
- Be safe and be a safety leader. Ensure compliance with all site safety and regulatory standards.
- Be an advocate within the operation for the tailings related infrastructure.
- Maintain and control the TSF and water dams risk register. This involves identifying risks, developing corrective actions to mitigate them, and monitoring their implementation.
- Develop and enforce Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure the facility meets company and statutory environmental, health, and safety requirements.
- Perform routine field checks and quarterly inspections of the TSF to ensure its integrity and that maintenance requirements are met.
- Ensure the site’s compliance with regulatory requirements in Tanzania, GISTM, and Barrick Standards.
- Schedule and participate in the Dam Safety Inspections, Dam Safety Reviews, and Assurance Reviews, and ensure that the recommendations are acted upon
- Assist the site in preparing for the Independent Third-Party Reviews, attend the scheduled reviews, and ensure that the recommendations are implemented.
- Participate in technical evaluations and risk assessments and assist in the development of mitigation strategies.
- Engage and interact with consultants
- Providing assessment and directive recommendations on technical work
- Design verification to meet the standard with consideration of facility failure consequences
- Ensure facility water and depositional balances are in place and calibrated
- Ensure design process and documents submitted by the Engineer of Record are consistent with the construction, operation, and closure performance requirements of the tailings’ storage or heap facilities
- Work with engineers and managers to develop and execute the life-of-mine tailings strategy and plan.
- Compile, monitor, and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) for the facility, including daily, weekly, and monthly monitoring reports.
- Lead the technical team in implementing the TSF design, communicating decisions and changes to the consultant Tailings Engineer.
- Report on construction progress, project timelines, and operational issues to management and other stakeholders.
- Prepare required reporting, including monthly stewardship documents and annual construction reports.
- Maintain clear communication
- Liaise on at least a weekly basis with the EoR and AME tailings Lead. Annually with the Accountable Executive.
- Manage the outsourced TSF operations contractor.
- Manage the construction contractor for future TSF expansions.
- Manage the interactions with the Engineer of Record.
- Work with the Accountable executive and the Independent Technical Review Boards to ensure that sufficient review is given to the designs, construction and operation.
- Responsibility for water balance and updates.
- Responsibility for collecting, collating reporting and acting on monitoring data from the facilities.
- Broaden the status of tailings rated topics within the business.
- Offer development and training to deputy RTFE and operational staff.
Qualification Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Geotechnical Engineering
- Postgraduate qualifications Master’s in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering are advantageous.
- At least 5 years relevant experience in managing, operating or designing Tailings Storage Facilities (TSFs)
- Should be knowledgeable on the National and Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management (GISTM).
Experience and Skills Requirements:
- At least 5 years relevant experience in managing, operating or designing Tailings Storage Facilities (TSFs)
- Proven track record in TSF operations, construction, monitoring, and rehabilitation.
- Have a deep understanding of the Global Industry Standard for Tailings Management (GISTM).
- Hands-on experience with construction, water management, geotechnical instrumentation and operational management.
- Strong leadership, communication and analytical skills.
