Chairperson Position for the Tanganyika Lake Basin Water Board
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Water, announces the vacancy for the Chairperson of the Tanganyika Lake Basin Water Board. This board is established under the Water Resources Management Act, Chapter 331, Section 22, and its regulations (Board Appointment, 2010). The board’s term is three years.

Responsibilities of the Tanganyika Lake Basin Water Board
The board is tasked with the following responsibilities:
- Preparing plans for water resource management, projects, budgets, and implementation strategies for the basin.
- Integrating district plans into the basin’s water resource management plans.
- Providing guidelines and standards for the construction and maintenance of water source infrastructure.
- Monitoring, evaluating, and approving the construction and maintenance of water source infrastructure.
- Collecting, processing, and analyzing data related to water resource management.
- Maintaining and improving assessments of water resource availability and demand.
- Approving, issuing, and revoking permits for water use and wastewater discharge.
- Maintaining a water register in accordance with Section 78.
- Monitoring and enforcing permits for water use and wastewater discharge, as well as measures to prevent pollution.
- Resolving disputes related to water use within the basin.
- Implementing projects and programs for water resource management.
- Coordinating sectoral activities for water resource management at the basin level and serving as a communication link between the sector and water users.
- Advising the Director of Water Resources on technical matters related to participatory water issues in the basin.
- Appointing the chairperson and members of basin and sub-basin water committees.
- Preparing reports on the status of water resources in the basin.
Applicant Qualifications
The applicant for this position must meet the following criteria:
- Possess knowledge and experience in matters related to the water sector or related sectors.
- Have specific expertise in water resource management.
- Not be affiliated with an institution that is a major water user.
