The Judicial Service Commission is a tool created for pursuant to paragraph 112 (1) of the Constitution of the United Republic of Tanzania of 1977. In addition, the Operations Act of Court No. 4/2011 gives it to the Judicial Service Commission.

The Court of Appeal is the supreme court and the final appellate court; it is presided over by the chief justice.
