CARE-WWF
Alliance in Tanzania aims to support smallholder farmers, particularly
women, to acquire knowledge, access, and control of productive resources
for increased productivity, income, and autonomy, to leverage the
accumulated capital and revolving credit held by VSLAs, CARE-WWF
Alliance will support collaborative engagement in agricultural value
chains in Iringa and Mufindi districts through Common beans, Irish
potatoes and nature based value chains to strengthen market position,
reduce transaction costs and risks, and create incentives for collective
enterprise investments. Group-wide and multi-group investments will
enable VSLAs to make bulk purchases of agricultural inputs and capital
equipment, support group training on good agricultural practices and
conservation of natural resources, and build sustainable models of eco
credit for smallholder farmers. CARE-WWF Alliance will launch the
Investment model within existing value chain interventions (including
common beans, Irish potatoes and nature based value chains) and then
integrate it into future value chain projects.

VSLA/Finance and Investment Coordinator
Iringa
The Project Coordinator – VSLA/Finance and Investment position will provide technical and operational leadership and support to VSLA and similar saving and groups in such a way that the small-scale producers and processors (SSPP) increase financial resilience and that invest into profitable and environmentally sustainable enterprises, improve their net income, food and nutrition security without reducing key ecosystem functions. S/he is expected to maintain effective working relationships with other CARE-WWF Alliance staff, and those working with other CARE and WWF program initiatives and impact groups.
The position will report directly to the CARE Tanzania Program Director and to the CARE-WWF Alliance Manager.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plan and conduct demand creation meetings that will involve small-scale farmer production groups and other stakeholders in the operating area to let them understand on what CARE-WWF Tanzania is doing under program,
- Mobilize SSPP into Saving and Credit groups into Investment groups, build their financial skills and capacities and facilitate transformation of the Saving and Credit into business
- Train VSLA groups on Inclusive financial and business models that promote sustainable economic development and incomes of the SSPPs particularly women.
- Coordinate with others to promote integration of ILWM, VC and VSLA actions towards sustainable ecosystem
- Facilitate the rollout adoption of the Chomoka App by VSLA’s including build capacity and incentives of agents to present Chomoka App as platform for collective decision
- Facilitate the rollout adoption of Intra and Inter collective investment model by VSLA or similar saving groups
- Facilitate rollout of the Eco credit or similar model by VSLA or similar saving groups and facilitate private and public partnerships to improve access of the saving groups to financial services and benefits from ecosystem services.
- Facilitate the identification of “ready to use” Saving Groups, assist in coordinating and supporting CBTs in reaching these groups and providing of appropriate support.
- Maintain thorough understanding of the technical aspects of the digital technology and provide linkage support to VSLAs using Chomoka App with the back-end IT maintenance team.
- Monitor the performance of On-boarded saving groups on the ground and share feed back to the Program management as and of when requested.
- Document achievements, lessons learned, and promising practices drawn from project implementation.
- Document evidence for multiplying work with other staff to organise and conduct reflective learning forums (meetings, workshops, etc.) internally and externally with program initiative stakeholders including government, private sector partners and academia.
- Ensure that gender and the role of women in the selected value chains is mapped, understood and promoted the different actors.
Read Also:
- BSc/BA in business administration, agribusiness, agriculture extension or relevant field from an accredited university is required. Desired-Post Graduate degree / Masters in relevant field
- Minimum of 3 years’ field experience in related saving and credit groups and or sustainable investment or related activities.
- Proven experience in VSLA or other Savings Groups methodology is mandatory.
- Proven experience working with Digital Applications is helpful, but not necessarily mandatory.
- Good computer skills, conversant in using MS office Word and Excel.
- Experience in training communities and other stakeholders particularly women
- Experience in developing or implementing business or investment models

Market systems and Value Chain Development Coordinator

The position of the Project Coordinator – Market systems and Value Chain Development will serve as the key technical lead for the CARE–WWF Alliance’s Value Chains and market intervention within the Southern Agricultural Growth Corridor of Tanzania (SAGCOT). S/he will lead technical and field-based project activities, including but not limited to market linkages, expansion of production and processing aspects of target value chains, engagement of the private sector, and capacity building for local partners. S/he will be responsible for sustainable production systems and in collaboration with other project staff, organize small-producers and processors to take advantage of potential growing market.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead development and implementation of the equitable business models for selected value chains and ensure inclusive and equitable benefits shared among the SSPs particularly women and girls.
- Develop and support strategies to strengthen chosen value chains, engagement, contribution and execution of support from technical service providers to the value chains that are inclusive of women and youth and nutrition sensitive.
- Facilitate the promotion of commercially viable linkages among smallholder farmers, larger businesses, service providers, private financiers and development partners through contracted service providers
- Ensure the value chain approach is inclusive of women and youth, and is sustainable, with supported access to weather, market & price information, inputs, finance and technology
- Identify technical assistance needs for the development of market and value chain tools, training materials and facilitating the conduct of pro-poor market and value chain studies;
- Promote strategies that increase land tenure and water permits security for women and youth, in addition to improved access to inputs, finances and appropriate technology
- Supervise value chain assessments, including developing scopes of work for any consultants who may be required to help carry out these assessments. Provide leadership and mentoring to the local technical team on analysing data from the assessments;
- Technical support of staff under supervision and where necessary partner staff on the implementation of the VSLA model and other business models
- Design activities to increase smallholder agricultural production and market linkages that lead to increased profitability of on-farm and off-farm enterprises. This includes the development and implementation of upgrading plans in targeted value chains with a focus on improving smallholder productivity, processing and net revenues without reducing ecosystem functions;
- With initial mentorship from the Value Chain consultant, facilitate the signing of formal agreements for value chain actors and small-scale producer/processor associations committed to IGG principles.
- Support the organization and strengthening of SSPP associations with demonstrated awareness and adoption of sustain-able agriculture best practices and improved processing & business skills
- Liaise with other development partners and projects to create leverage for Alliance SAGCOT and a coordinated approach;
- Provide technical guidance in the process for selecting value chain cluster drivers, evaluation of business proposals and finalization of cluster formation agreements among cluster actors;
- Coordinate with IGG specialists in the SAGCOT to promote integration of IGG principles into the key actor’s business models along the value chains, and the Land and Water Resource Lead to ensure overall integrated approach
Read Also:
- At least a Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, agricultural economics, agribusiness development or related field from an accredited university is required. Master’s degree in agriculture, agribusiness development or related field is an added advantage
- Minimum 5 years’ field experience in agricultural or value chain development and markets for poor (M4P) particularly in targeted value chains in the SAGCOT region
- Experience in identifying opportunities for value chain development which promote market linkages, improve sustainable access to productive inputs, resources and services at the processor, collective and household level, and positively impact the entire value chain.
- Experience with agricultural and rural development conditions in emerging markets, especially eastern Africa and other comparable markets.
- Experience training communities and other stakeholders.
