National Project Coordinator


Organizational Setting
Within the framework of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Emergency Center for Transboundary Animal Diseases (ECTAD), under the overall administrative and functional supervision of the FAO Representative in Tanzania, the National Project coordinator will provide overall leadership, management and technical guidance to ensure the achievement of project objectives and delivery of project outputs at the country level.

Reporting Lines
The National Project Coordinator for Global Framework for Transboundary Animal Diseases – African Swine Fever (GFTADs-ASF) will work within the framework of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), and under the direct supervision of the Country Team Leader (CTL) of FAO-ECTAD, Tanzania and in close collaboration with the programme and administration staff in FAO Tanzania. He/she will also work in close collaboration with the Regional Project Coordinator and the technical backstopping and supervision of the ECTAD Regional Manager for Eastern Africa.

Tasks And Responsibilities
The Project Coordinator will undertake the following duties and responsibilities:
  • Provide overall leadership, management and technical guidance to ensure the achievement of project objectives and delivery of project outputs at the country level in close consultation with the FAOR, the CTL and Government authorities.
    • Plan the recruitment, develop TORs and provide supervision of short-term consultants required to undertake specific tasks within the framework of the project as set in the SOW and/or WP,
  • Facilitate country specific field missions to achieve the aims and objectives of the project.
  • Contribute to updating or development of a country level strategy and contingency plan for ASF,
  • Coordinate national validation workshop for the country strategy and contingency plan for ASF,
  • Coordinate in-country national consultative workshops on public-private sector engagement to control ASF
  • Coordinate national workshops on biosecurity and animal husbandry practices
  • Monitoring and reporting on indicators and targets set to evaluate the progress and results achieved by the project in 2020; and for planning the implementation for year 2021.
  • Ensuring accurate and timely submission of quarterly and annual activity progress reports, and financial reports to The Project Coordinator will undertake the following duties and responsibilities:

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING
Minimum Requirements

  • A Master’s level degree in veterinary science/medicine – Advanced degree in Veterinary Epidemiology is an added advantage
  • Minimum of five years of increasingly responsible professional experience in rural development work preferably in programme management in animal health;
  • Substantive knowledge and practical experience in Transboundary Animal Diseases, particularly ASF, in terms of population, management, and gender programming;
  • Good understanding of the Government systems, particularly in the veterinary / animal health service areas;
  • Experience in working in a multi-cultural environment and at district and/or community level;
  • Good analytical and strategic thinking and sound judgment; team building and advocacy skills;
  • Experience in programme/project planning, design, follow-up, monitoring and evaluation;
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills are a strong asset; and
  • Fluency in English
  • Candidate should be Tanzanian;
