Underground Fitter
  • Geita Gold Mine, Geita
Position purpose:
  • This position is responsible for Diagnostic fault finding on mechanical and electrical systems, breakdown repairs and servicing of heavy mining equipment as guided by your immediate supervisor and trainer.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Complies with all HS&E policies, procedures and instructions.  This includes the correct use of safety devices and protective equipment, prompt reporting of any hazardous situations, which they cannot themselves correct, making the necessary changes to eliminate or control the hazard and reporting immediately any accident or injury which arises in the course of their work.
  2. Complies with all company policies and procedures that are displayed and amended from time to time.
  3. Takes reasonable care for their own safety and that of other persons who may be affected by their acts.
  4. Performs pre-start checks and SWICs.
  5. Ensuring inspections and maintenance is carried out on all equipment before use.
  6. Ensures that all tools are serviceable and safe.
  7. Must Work to minimise equipment downtime and maximise productivity.
  8. Liaises with the underground shift supervisor to: Ensure all work is done in a safe and efficient manner & Advise when items of equipment are out of service and when they can be returned to service.
  9. Carries out schedule servicing to mobile equipment in a safe manner and in accordance with the service sheet.
  10. Utilise skill and experience to create minimum downtime on machinery.
  11. Ensure correct recording of maintenance is achieved.
  12. Maintain a high level of housekeeping in workshop and working areas at all times, ensure all parts are kept at minimum stock levels.
  13. Read and interpret Service and Spare parts manuals.
  14. Report all equipment faults to the Maintenance Supervisor / Foreman for scheduling into the workshop.
  15. Ensure site and maintenance procedures are maintained.
Essential Requirements
  • Previous experience working within the UG mining industry essential.
  • Strong background working with underground mobile mining equipment, including makes such as Caterpillar, Normet,Sandvik,Mercedes, Toyota, RCT and Volvo.
  • At least 2 years post apprenticeship experience.
  • High degree of skill in troubleshooting problems on mining equipment.
  • Good knowledge of loader and truck maintenance.
  • Competent on Auto Electrics, Hydraulic Circuits and Diesel engine maintenance.
  • Excellent service and maintenance approach to the job.
  • Willingness to learn to improve skills and gain further experience on mobile equipment.
  • Tanzanian Heavy Vehicle Class Drivers Licence.
  • Basic first aid knowledge
  • Relevant Trade Qualification
  • Completion of secondary school
  • Basic numeracy and verbal/written English
Jumbo Drill Operator
  • Geita Gold Mine, Geita
Position purpose:
  • The Jumbo Operator will carry out underground development and production work, stripping, ground support and other mining tasks directed by the Underground Shift Supervisor and trainer.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Complies with all HS&E policies, procedures and instructions.  This includes the correct use of safety devices and protective equipment, prompt reporting of any hazardous situations, which they cannot themselves correct, making the necessary changes to eliminate or control the hazard and reporting immediately any accident or injury which arises in the course of their work.
  2. Complies with relevant Mines Safety and Inspection Act and Regulations.
  3. Takes reasonable care for their own safety and that of other persons who may be affected by their acts.
  4. Performs pre-start checks and SWICs.
  5. Accurately drill a number of drive drill patterns using a mechanised electric/Hydraulic Jumbo drill suitable to ground conditions and in compliance with site specific drill patterns and survey instruction.
  6. Assess ground conditions at the face and implement ground control according to site requirements.
  7. Read and accurately follow mining instruction plan with skill and precision ensuring holes are drilled to design line, gradient and profile.
  8. Communicate with surveyors, geologists and engineers as required.
  9. Optimise drill patterns to ensure maximum advance per round is achieved whilst maintaining strict adherence to design specifications with minimal overbreak.
  10. Ensure work area is safe for personnel and equipment to perform working duties including ensuring electrical installations and services are clear of the drilling area.
Storeperson
  • Geita Gold Mine, Geita
Position purpose:
  • Is to be responsible for the maintanence of an efficient, safe and secure warehouse facility. To ensure a high level of material availability and consumer satisfaction.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • The safe operation of mobile equipment while loading and unloading materials and equipment.
  • Efficient and accurate  issuing and receipt of all warehouse materials.
  • Accurate data entry into the Pronto ERP system
  • Conduct stocktakes as directed ensuring a high count accuracy.
  • Report all stock discrepancies to supervisor.
  • Maintain a high level of housekeeping within the warehouse and external storage areas.
  • Compliance with AUMS company policies, procedures and standards
Essential Requirements:
  • Forklift certificate or competency
  • Current Tanzanian driver’s licence
  • Experienced in the use of Pronto or other ERP system
  • Previous experience in a warehouse environment in the mining industry.
  • Completion of secondary school
  • Advanced numeracy and verbal/written English
  • Excellent communication skills
EHS&T COORDINATOR
Geita Gold Mine, Geita
Position purpose:
  • The EHS&T Coordinator will provide the site with EHS&T advice, coordination and relevant administration support. The role will be involved in partnering with site operations supervisors and employees to ensure AUMS’s safety values and culture is effectively promoted and adopted across the operation.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Guiding employees on best work practice by ensuring safe work processes are in place, understood by all and being used consistently.
  • Administering and applying EHS&T policies, procedures, and matrices including the development of site specific EHS&T management plans.
  • Provide on-site Inductions ensuring all employees and contractors are site compliant.
  • Monitor the health and well-being of our onsite personnel.
  • Participate in (and lead where appropriate at the local level) any EHS&T improvement to ensure both operational and legislative requirements are met.
  • Provide technical support as required to accident investigations to ensure a thorough and documented approach is used.
  • Provide accurate and timely local reports on all HSE&T matters to relevant parties.
  • Attend and provide input to the regular operations tool box and pre and after shift meetings.
  • Provide EHS&T reporting and monitor local trends for communicating with relevant parties and following up accordingly.
  • In conjunction with relevant parties implement the solutions to issues of recurring EHS&T problems.
  • Conduct training and verification of Competencies.
  • Support auditing of onsite machinery and equipment.
  • Provide EHS&T mentoring to operational personnel.
  • Administer and assist with the local return to work/rehabilitation process.
Essential Requirements:
  • Diploma/Degree in OHS or equivalent with up to 4 – 6 years’ relevant experience.
  • Familiar v/ith the Tanzanians
  • More system oriented
  • High level of integrity.
  • Strong interpersonal, management and communication skills.
  • Dependably exercise sound judgement and decisions.
  • Strong sense of urgency and outcomes focused.

 SENIOR EHS &T COORDINATOR

Position purpose:
  • The Senior EHS&T Coordinator will provide the site with EHS&T advice, coordination and relevant administration support.   • Provide monthly HSE reports to AUMS and Client management, both site and external.
  • Oversee pre-employment programs are conducted (Dover and Simulator) for potential new employee’s.
  • Provide support, guidance to AUMS and client personnel on all issues relating to EHS&T.
  • Monitor site KPI’s every month to ensure compliance.
Essential Requirements:
  • Diploma/Degree in OHS or equivalent with at least 7 years relevant experience.
  • Cert IV OHS and trainer and assessor or equivalent
  • Senior First Aid or higher
  • Mines Rescue experience
  • ICAM Investigation
  • Computer literate – excel, word. PowerPoint
  • High level of integrity.
  • Strong interpersonal, management and communication skills.
  • Dependably exercise sound judgement and decisions.
  • Strong sense of urgency and outcomes focused.
  • Knowledge and application of HSE legislation and compliance requirements to AUMS / Barminco and the client’s safety systems.
  • Experience of providing supportive specialist EHS&T operational advice to operations.
  • Proven experience in a similar role preferably within an underground mining environment.
