Position: General Accountant
Reports to: Accounting Manager
Location: Mbeya 
Job Summary:
HJFMRI-TZ seeks to hire a self-motivated and talented General Accountant. The purpose of this position is to ensure accuracy of entries; timelines of payments and financial reporting to the program are done without delay. The position holder has to perform balance sheet reconciliations and provide advice and support to staff in the areas of financial management. 
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
• Prepare documents by scrutinizing and verifying that all required attachments have been supplied before documents is channeled for approval, posting and payment process.
• Post entries into Quick Book on a daily basis.
• Ensure all entries posted into QuickBooks are in compliance with International Financial reporting standard, GAAP and QuickBooks accounting and reporting manual.
• Initiate payments into the banking system or writing bank checks, while ensuring segregation of duty is strictly for each paid document is strictly observed between posting and payments.
• Ensure payments and all other processes are in compliance with internal control policy and other policies.
• Prepare and submit all documents posted and paid through the bank to the senior accountants on a daily basis for QB check application and for reconciliation purpose.
• Maintain document workflow system and ensuring the document workflow template is fully updated with daily posting and payments made.
• Ensure all payments are properly scanned and submitted to HQ.
• Reconcile financial discrepancies and errors as reported by collecting and analyzing account information.
• Answer accounting procedure questions by researching and interpreting accounting policies and regulations.
• Enforce internal policies to program staff, eg Training SOP, Travel advance policy, Mpesa policy and other policies within the program.
• Prepare financial reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing account information and trends, as directed by the Senior Accountant and/or Accounting Manager.
• Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
• Prepare the monthly payroll entry for review by Senior Accountant.
• Prepare monthly closing schedules for review by Senior Accountant.
• Reconcile bank accounts and clears any discrepancies in the balances by researching and analyzing the account information.
• Maintain and reconcile petty cash accounts on a monthly basis to be reviewed by the Senior Accountant
• Manage time sheets and make follow-up. Where necessary scanned them to HQ.
• Manage statutory deductions, NSSF, PPF, and PAYE Files in Monthly basis.
• Work with other program staff to understand program activities and appreciate the existing linkage with finance
• Take initiative to understand budget preparation, implementation and monitoring process and the overall financial management of the program
• Work while observing the Professional Code of Conduct (PICCO). Professional behavior, Integrity, Competence, Confidentiality and Objectivity. General accountant is directly obligated to report any misconduct observed or heard that is against these codes to the immediate supervisor or to the appropriate reporting channel.
• Undertake other assignments assigned by the senior accountant, accounting manager and Senior Finance Director.

Required Competencies:
The General Accountant must be able to demonstrate the following:
• Deadline-Oriented, Reporting Research Results, SFAS Rules, Time Management and Data Entry Management.
• Experience working in accounting with an international NGO, health related NGO especially
desirable.
• 1-2 years of QuickBooks Enterprise or similar electronic accounting software experience
• Knowledge of the full accounting cycle.
• Highly proficient in Exceland Word applications.
• High level of deductive reasoning.

• Ability to problem-solve and take initiative to resolve issues.
• Excellent communication (verbal and written) in English and Swahili.
• Exceptional follow-through skills.
• Ability to meet deadlines .

Minimum Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or relevant field. CPA/ACCA is an added advantage.

BACKGROUND
The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is an international non-governmental organization which provides assistance and promotes durable solutions for refugees and internally displaced people, on the basis of humanitarian principles and human rights. DRC is a humanitarian actor in Tanzania and has been operating in Tanzania from October 2015 since the establishment of Nduta refugee camp. As part of the Burundian Refugee Response in Tanzania, DRC implements programs in Nduta and Mtendeli camps in the sectors of camp management, community-based protection, protection, livelihoods, general food distribution and WASH.
Job Objectives
The objectives of this position is to perform the driving of DRC Tanzania work is carried out and ensure the safety of the staff, looking after the vehicle assigned to him, and ensure that the DRC driving rules and regulations are followed.
Key Accountabilities
• To perform all regular driving duties of DRC in Tanzania
• To ensure that you are familiar with safety procedures relating to vehicles and travel, and that all such procedures and guidelines are followed
• To take responsibility for the safety of passengers, and to ensure both driver and passengers wear seatbelts at all times.
• To ensure that vehicles are properly maintained and fuelled at all times
• To carry out daily checks (water, oil, battery, tires, windscreen wipers, etc.) and clean the vehicles to which you are driving
• To accurately record all journeys made and fuel supplied on the log sheets provided
• To ensure that all traffic regulations and DRC speed limits are observed
• To adhere to all security guidelines of DRC
• To be responsible for all items according to the inventory in the vehicle
• To take responsibility for all goods and equipment carried in the vehicle when driving
• To ensure the vehicle is securely locked at all times when not in use

Person Specification
Essential
• A valid driving license which covers all light vehicles

Team Leader, Tanzania
Tanager, an ACDI/VOCA affiliate, is promptly seeking a Team Leader for the anticipated AgResults Tanzania Dairy Production Challenge Project. The purpose of this project is to strengthen the ability of smallholder farmers (SHFs) to increase dairy productivity to meet the growing demand for milk and dairy products in Tanzania. AgResults will implement a prize mechanism to award per-unit monetary prizes to Tanzanian private sector competitors that successfully sell or deliver “bundles” of productivity-increasing inputs to SHF dairy producers. The Team Leader will be responsible for managing day-to-day project activities and engaging with dairy industry stakeholders, including government, private sector, competitors, and technical advisors.

Responsibilities

  • Assume overall responsibility for facilitating the implementation of project, including the management of project budget and finances.
  • Manage and oversee the competitor sourcing and sign-up process with the competitors.
  • Oversee selection of legal support services for the development or finalization of the competition rules
  • Collaborate with the client to develop a sales verification process, identify Verifier candidates, and oversee work of selected sales verification service provider
  • Liaise effectively with private sector stakeholders, government officials, and the donor.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor annual work plans to ensure project meets stated goals.
  • Draft, write, and submit all program reports and deliverables in a timely manner.
  • Oversee proper administrative, financial, and programmatic compliance with Tanager and donor regulations, policies, and procedures.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of seven to ten years of experience managing international donor funded projects; Tanzania experience required.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, economics, business, international development, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience facilitating programs or projects that include public and private sector involvement.
  • Proven ability to work independently; effectively manage time, competing priorities, and complex tasks; and identify opportunities and challenges and propose appropriate responses or solutions.
  • Experience with positive stakeholder engagement, including the agribusiness private sector, international donors, and government officials.
  • Experience overseeing monitoring and verification systems.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills in English.
