It covers an area of 5,031 km2 and has a population of 159,226 according to the 2022 Tanzania National Census. The district is divided into four administrative divisions: Mzenga,


Chole, Sungwi, and Maneromango, each consisting of 17 wards and 235 hamlets. Kisarawe’s economy is primarily based on agriculture, with crops like cassava, coconuts, cashew nuts, mangoes, jackfruit, and pineapple being cultivated. The district also has a privately owned cement factory and a detergent factory under construction.

In terms of geography, Kisarawe experiences temperatures ranging from 28°C to 30°C with two main rainy seasons: the short rains from October to December and the long rains from March to June. The eastern part receives more rainfall compared to the western part.
