Responsibilities 

  • Execute daily routine work according to policies and procedures within prescribed guidelines with emphasis on quality and quantity of work output.
  • Supervise all mechanical planned and corrective maintenance activities, identify problems and  implement remedial action.
  • Supervise the work of subordinates in accordance with standard policies and procedures.
  • Identify and rectify risks and hazards, maintaining an environmentally friendly working atmosphere.
  • Investigate cost saving and productivity improvement within area of responsibility and advice on action plan accordingly.
  • Provide leadership to ensure that employees and contractors adhere to safety and environmental standards that exceed worldwide industry practice and any applicable legislative requirements.
  • Manage activities of the Mechanical Maintenance Team to assure safe, cost effective and high-quality maintenance activities and to optimize Company’s financial status.
  • Ensure that maintenance practices result in maximum mill availability.  Meeting or exceeding planned equipment availability is a Key Performance Indicator.
  • Lead Mechanical Maintenance personnel to work safely at all times, develop and promote a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Ensure achievement of optimum and cost-effective plant performance and equipment service though active collaboration and planning between Operations, and Maintenance teams.
  • Develop and maintain reporting procedures for maintenance, planning and cost reporting.
  • Manage workshop facilities, ensuring excellent housekeeping and that tooling is secured, maintained and replaced as required.
  • Support the Process Maintenance Foreman in budgeting and control of Process Plant maintenance costs.  Implement and monitor systems and take corrective action where necessary to ensure that consumable usage and costs remain favorable to budget.
  • Support the Process Maintenance Superintendent in development of a long-term maintenance plan, which includes all identified routine, non-routine and probable maintenance work, and capital required to ensure safe and effective performance of the Process Plant on a yearly basis and for Life of Mine.
  • Provide input into development of maintenance training packages.
  • Provide ongoing training, mentoring and employee performance management, to develop and maintain a safe, competent and results orientated Process Maintenance team, and to ensure that employees gain new skills and achieve their full potential.
  • Develop and implement Safe Work Procedures and other maintenance procedures. Assist in training of these procedures and ensure they are adhered to.
  • Take appropriate action when substandard performance or behavior of employees is observed.
  • Be proactive in all aspects of Process Plant security to prevent and eliminate theft and fraud.
  • Perform any other duty that may be assigned by superior.

Qualification requirements

  • A relevant trade qualification in Mechanical /Fabrication Engineering or its equivalent from a recognized institution.
  • Experience in systematic coaching and training of employees is essential.
  • Experience with computerized maintenance systems, e.g. Pronto, is essential.
  • Must have valid Tanzania driving license.

Experience and Competencies needed.

  • At least five (5) years working experience in metallurgical plant maintenance.
  • Reliable, trustworthy and be able to cope with pressure.
  • Knowledge in installation and maintenance of pumps, mills, screen, compressors, agitators, belt conveyors etc.
  • Excellent knowledge of standards, methods and maintenance procedures of the job.

Responsibilities 

  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory and Barrick health, safety and environmental policies and procedures.
  • Report all Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) issues via an incident report.
  • Daily maintenance Inspection and execution of Fixed plant Equipment.
  • Ensure work completion details are finalized in accordance with work requirements and procedures.
  • Ensure mechanical tools and equipment are maintained and stored in accordance with Barrick and OEM safety standards/ procedures.
  • Perform task risk assessments (JHA, FLRA).
  • Ensure the Fixed plant operates within acceptable limits and deviations reported.
  • Adhere to isolation and lock out permits procedures.
  • Adhere to workplace safety policies, regulations, and compliances.
  • Performs high quality, planned and unplanned repairs of any mechanical equipment in compliance with applicable codes, standards, safety, and environment regulation.
  • Maintaining a clean and environmentally safe work area, apply 5S principle.
  • Attain and maintain relevant licenses and authorizations required to execute allocated duties e.g., Basic Rigging, Working at Heights, Machine Operation i.e. Forklift.
  • Fabricate and assemble metal structures and equipment with welders, cutters, shapers and measuring tools.
  • Fabricate, weld, and install chutes, boxes, pipes, reducers, bends, and Y piece.
  • Repair and maintain metal equipment and structures of various sizes.
  • Read and interpret diagrams, sketches, and blueprints to determine operations, required materials and time frames for projects.
  • Apply best maintenance practice on repair of chutes, steel tanks, pipes, and steel structures.
  • Apply standard paint on new steel structure and any repair on steel works.
  • Assess welded surfaces, structures, and components to identify errors.
  • Examine pressure vessels, tanks, chutes, pipes to locate defects such as leaks, weak spots, and defective sections so that they are repaired.
  • Fabricate, fit, and assemble the structural components of various mechanical systems.
  • Perform any task as instructed by report line supervisor.
  • Perform basic mechanical fitting, rubber lining, scaffolding and rigging works as instructed by your supervisor.
  • Clean equipment, using scrapers, wire brushes, and cleaning solvents to ensure equipment or work area remains clean and tidy.
  • Clean, maintain, repair, and rebuild mechanical parts, components and equipment as directed by the Supervisor.
  • Conduct regular Fixed plant and steel structures inspections.
  • Complete breakdown and preventive maintenance work orders on time, create subsequent notifications, and provide feedback on work performed.
  • Removes defective parts by dismantling devices; using hoists, cranes, and hand and power tools; examining form and texture of parts.
  • Maintains equipment, parts, and supplies inventories by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed equipment, parts, and supplies then organize with supervisor.
  • Maintains continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
  • Responsible for shift handover at area of responsibility.

Qualification requirements

  • Technical/ Vocational School, Apprenticeship training, on-the-job training (FTC, VETA, IMTT Trade Test or its Equivalent).
  • Sound knowledge of Mining Safety Regulations and best practice.

Experience and competencies needed.

  • Minimum of 3 years post apprenticeship experience working on Heavy Mobile Equipment in surface and Underground operations.
  • Working knowledge of safety standards of equipment.
  • Previous maintenance experience in industrialized plant is beneficial.
  • Experience using multiple welding machines including the arc welder, TIG, and MIG.
  • Excellent knowledge of welding machinery, electrical equipment, and manual tools.
  • Experience in open cast and Underground mining essential.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
  • Hazard identification and Risk assessment.
  • Understand technical drawings and manuals.
  • VETA Driving Certificate.
  • Possess a Valid Tanzanian driving license class B, C, D and E
  • Able to Drive Manual Transmission/Stick Shift Transmission.

Responsibilities 

  • Relate and communicate with maintenance team on equipment breakdowns and organize for mechanics/technicians to work.
  • Work closely with Mining Operations, Technical Services and Geology departments to ensure daily production targets are met.
  • Ensure timely release of equipment to maintenance crew for all required services.
  • Monitor all equipment breakdowns and ensure the correct equipment conditions are reported to maintenance leadership team.

  • Monitor and control the use of mining operations two-way radio communication to ensure they are used as per radio use SOP and to report any violation or abuses.
  • Produce accurate production and equipment report to mining/maintenance leadership team.
  • Be an advocate for safety, actively participate in all mine site activities that ensure safety and security of personnel and equipment.
  • Maintain accurate data/records with regards to equipment statuses and production load counts.
  • Take active role in the running of the shift by using all mining SOPs and assist field equipment operators.
  • Perform any other duties that will be assigned by the Supervisor.

Qualification requirements

  • Diploma/Degree in Mining Engineering or Equivalent
  • Sound knowledge of Fleet management Systems, Driver Safety Systems, computer applications, MS Excel and MS Word, mine equipment performance and production optimization.
  • Must demonstrate good oral / written communication skills in English.
  • Team Player and result oriented.
  • A valid Tanzanian driving licence will be advantageous.
