Position Description

North Mara Gold Mine Limited is seeking to recruit Hauling Equipment Operator II (Truck) to join and grow their team. You will be expected to align to the Barrick DNA and to operate within our mining assets with our best people teams. You will contribute in a safe and cost-effective manner to achieve targets in accordance with Mine Safety Standards, Policies and Procedures and ensure daily targets are met.

The North Mara gold mine is located in north-west Tanzania in the Tarime district of the Mara region. It is around 100 kilometres east of Lake Victoria and 20 kilometres south of the Kenyan border.

North Mara started commercial production in 2002. The mine is a combined open pit and underground operation from two deposits, Gokona (underground) and Nyabirama (open pit).

 Responsibilities

 

  • All possible hazards on route and inside assigned  working places identified, rectified and / or reported daily when on shift (Minimum 5 per shift)
  • Zero involvement in an incident or accident, those occurred are reported to Supervisor within shift
  • Field Level Risk Assessment completed accurately for every task assigned
  • Team Based Job Safety Analysis completed for every task without a Standard Operating Procedure
  • Carry out housekeeping activities before and after every task completed
  • Compliance to the use of required PPE for the task at hand
  • Attendance daily, on time
  • Zero complaints from customers about your work
  • Supervisor/Leader confirms through evidence that you value team membership & actively participate
  • Compliance to related Standard Operating Procedures
  • Equipment Pre-Start Inspections conducted prior to operating any equipment on a shiftly basis and sub-standard equipment reported & corrected
  • Workplace inspections conducted shiftly as assigned and substandard conditions reported and / or corrected within shift
  • Maintain communication throughout the shift by reporting in intervals not exceeding one hour
  • Safe & efficient Equipment operation within Standard Operating Procedure requirements, as per production plan
  • Achievement of daily planned targets
  • Zero Damage to equipment as a result of poor operating techniques or negligence daily

Qualification requirements

  • Ordinary secondary school education.
  • Sound knowledge of Open Pit Mining Operations
  • Dump Truck Operator license
  • Basic ground Control Training
  • Valid Tanzanian Drivers Licence
  • Formal Training Certificate from in HME Equipment from VETA Institute

  • At least 2 years industry experience in Open Pit Mining Operations 
  • At least 2 Years’ experience in operating Dump Trucks
  • Experience in operation of Heavy Mobile Equipment in Mining, such as Water Truck,Loader, Grader, Excavator advantageous

Hauling Equipment Operator III – Excavator /Breaker

Responsibilities

  • All possible hazards on route and inside assigned  working places identified, rectified and / or reported daily when on shift (Minimum 5 per shift)

Experience and competencies needed

  • Experience in dealing with multi-cultural orientations 
  • At least 5 years industry experience in Open Pit Mining Operations 
  • At least 5 Years’ experience in operating Mining Excavators in a production environment.
  • Experience in operation of multiple items of Heavy Mobile Equipment in Mining such as Loader, Grader, Dozer highly advantageous

Driller

  • Accurately drill a series of Blast Holes to a design pattern using a Sandvik DI650i DTH drill rig.
  •  Read and accurately follow mine instruction plans with skill and precision ensuring holes are drilled to design line, gradient and profile.
  • Communicate with surveyors, geologists and engineers to optimize drill patterns and meters.
  • Set up and troubleshoot on Blast Hole Drill rigs, specifically on the Sandvik DI650i DTH rigs.
  • Comply with relevant Mines Safety and Inspection Act and Regulations
  • Must carry out standard work place inspection practices and procedures and prepare the areas for drilling, charging or scraping in accordance with mine safety procedures.
  • Compliance with Standards using relevant information and individual judgment to evaluate and determine whether events or processes comply with laws, regulations, and Barrick standards and procedures
  • Participation in all applicable safety, prestart and shift team meetings
  • Compliance to all applicable mine safe work procedures / safe operating procedures;
  • Training, Coaching and development: Identifying the educational or training needs of others and suggest to the supervisor. Coaching and helping team members to improve their knowledge/ skills
  • Ensure tramming and set up times for the drill rig is optimal.
  • Ensure that Delays due to RDT change out are minimized.
  • Efficient and correct application of the drill rig to maximize productivity
  • To be pro-active in all aspects of operational safety and encourage teamwork across departments and sections
  • Ensure efficient utilization of resources; Drill machines, drill bits, hammers, Water truck etc. and ensure NO abuse.
  • Report breakdowns, equipment damages, safety near misses, incidents and accidents according to the laid out procedures including completing the Shift report at the end of each shift.
  • Participate and support Succession Planning within the Mining Team to ensure progressive development of Tanzanian employees to assume positions of increasing accountability.
  • To be pro-active in all aspects of operational safety, efficient utilization of the resources, Continuous Improvement ideas and Projects; and encourage teamwork across the departments
  • Deputies for Drilling Supervisor as required
  •  Any other duties that may be assigned to fulfil the overall business objective
  • Closely monitoring  the progress of trainees through training reports and discussions with department managers and taking appropriate action to ensure that participants achieve the required standard of competency in a safe and cost efficient manner
  • Any other duties deemed appropriate by the Drill Supervisor

Qualification requirements

  • Secondary School Certificate / Vocational Training/ Apprenticeship in a related field / college program in heavy equipment operation
  • Hold a valid driver’s license
  • Heavy Mobile equipment operation skills.
  • Mines Health & Safety Act Awareness
  • Minimum of one year recent experience in RC or large diameter DTH drilling.
  • DTH and RC Drilling operations
  • Bits and other RDT selection and performance
  • Equipment parts and components identification
  • Pass Aptitude test and Dover test
  • Consistent demonstration of Barrick Core Values
  • Strong conceptual thinking ability

Experience and competencies needed

  • Previous experience working as a Blast Hole Driller DTH
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the Underground Mining Industry.

Stemming Loader Operator

  • Attend all pre-shift instruction meetings.
  • Communicate with and receive instruction from the Drill and Blasting Supervisor and follow the specified instruction and daily stemming load plan, prior to the execution of activities.
  • Call for off-siding assistance, in the event of inappropriate stemming material.
  • Operate the loader during blasting activities.
  • Report on poor quality stemming material to the Drill and Blasting Supervisor.
  • Report any other detected issues to the Maintenance Team/ Supervisor.
  • Pick up PVC pipes and arrange them neatly to the next drilling pattern.
  • Load, operate and maintain the assigned stemming truck, as instructed by the Drill and Blasting Supervisors and blaster crew team members.
  • Perform pre-start inspections of stemming truck systems, equipment and accessories such as tyres, lights, turn signals, and brakes.
  • Inspect the truck cabin and ensure that all switches are operational.
  • Signal Dispatcher on the two-way communication radio to inform of any detected stemming truck defects or issues.
  • Follow laid-down starting procedures and instructions from the Blaster.
  • Stem charged blast holes efficiently to achieve planned blasting times.
  • Verify that all stemming material used is clean with no oversized material.
  • Report and escalate all accidents and incidents occurring in the shift immediately to the Dispatcher /Drill and Blasting Supervisor.
  • Raise any stemming truck malfunctions or service requirements to the Supervisor at the before, during or after the shift.
  • Meet and / or exceed established performance expectations set by management.
  • Assist in developing peers to perform stemming duties.
  • Perform other related activities, as assigned by the Drill and Blasting Supervisor.
  • Operate and drive heavy stemming trucks to transport stemming materials.
  • Remain responsible for the collection and haulage of stemming material from loading point to dumping destination, at the correct site locations.
  • Drive to and from the pit in a safe, slow and controlled manner.
  • Confirm that stemming material is properly loaded and packed into the drill hole, according to safety requirements.
  • Communicate and provide work status handovers to incoming Stemming Loader Operator.
  • Communicate with the Dispatcher regarding hazards encountered to provide sufficient information to the incoming Stemming Loader Operators for the smooth running of Operations

Qualification requirements

  • Knowledge on MINCOM Equipment Competency.
  • Blasting Certification.
  • General understanding of mining operations.
  • General knowledge in mid-to-heavy equipment operation.

Experience and competencies needed

  • Minimum of 4 – 6 years’ experience working in a stemming/blasting environment, within an active open pit mine.
  • Experience in delivering technical training programmes.
  • Well-developed oral and written communication skills as well as the ability to interact with People of diverse cultures and levels.
  • Strong Safety Background and ability to drive a safe working environment and practices.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
  • Hazard Identification & Risk Assessment.
  • Driving ability.
