The goal of the Embassy of Ireland Tanzania is to advance Ireland’s values and interests through support for peace, prosperity and equality, with a focus on women and girls in Tanzania. The Embassy has two strategic objectives for the period 2022-26:

Recommended:

(i) To deepen and strengthen Ireland’s political, economic and cultural relationships with Tanzania and countries of secondary accreditation and (ii) to support marginalised women and girls in Tanzania to realise their rights and fulfil their potential. The Government of Ireland commenced a programme of development assistance in Tanzania in 1975, and opened a Development Cooperation Office in Dar Es Salaam in 1979 under the leadership of the ChargĂ© d’Affaires, Brendan Scannell.

Ireland continued to be represented at ChargĂ© d’Affaires level until 2006 when, to coincide with the state visit to Tanzania of President Mary McAleese, John McCullagh was appointed as the first Ambassador to Tanzania. The Ambassador to Tanzania is also accredited to Burundi, Seychelles, Comoros, DRC and the East African Community.
