Innovation: Africa (iA) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization whose team of dedicated problem solvers work together to bring solar and water technologies to rural communities in Africa in need living in rural African villages. We use solar energy to pump clean water and provide schools, orphan­ages, and medical clinics with light and refrigeration to store vaccines and medicines. iA has completed over 300 solar, water, and agricultural projects, providing light, clean water, food and proper medical care to more than 2 million people in Ethiopia, Tanzania, Malawi, South Africa, Uganda, Camer­oon, Senegal and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Field Electrical Engineer
Seeking Hard-Working, Dedicated Problem-Solver Field Electrical Engineer in Tanzania Innovation: Africa
Reports To: Local Project Manager & Country Director in Israel
Job Summary
We are seeking a highly trained and qualified individual to join our Tanzania team as an Electrical Engineer to work in the Dodoma Region. This position works under the super­vision of the Country Director and is responsible for over­seeing iA’s solar electrification projects predominantly at schools and health centers, the technical implementation of iA solar systems including the Energy Box, liaising with lo­cal contractors and in-house engineers, as well as providing technical support in all sites post completion. The Electrical Engineer will also be responsible for all iA field activities, including identifying and selecting the beneficiaries of our projects, actively engaging in community mobilization and sensitization, establishing and maintaining regular commu­nication with the communities we serve, implementing proj­ect-related activities, providing regular reports and ongoing monitoring of the projects. Candidates should expect fre­quent travel to the field to identify new projects, oversee the construction and implementation of ongoing projects, and monitor completed projects.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all field operations related to solar projects, including prospective project search, project construc- tion/implementation, and monitoring and evaluation
  • Work closely with the local contractor to plan and design all solar electrification systems
  • Oversee technical implementation of all solar systems and serve as technical point person for all system de­signs
  • Manage on-site work during all stages of the system design and installation and ensure contractors’ strict adherence to all project timelines
  • Independently assess needs for maintenance work (post-installation) in projects where a malfunction exists, and provide sustainable solutions
  • Track the progress of ongoing field installation and maintenance activities
  • Maintain regular contact with Innovation: Africa’s engi­neers in Israel to successfully implement and monitor new solar technologies and remote monitoring systems
  • Research and implementation of best solar equipment in all iA projects
  • Support field team and conduct effective community technical trainings and sensitization to all iA solar bene­ficiaries, including establishing project steering commit­tees
  • Support the Project Manager to manage relationships with municipal officers, local leaders, and international stakeholders.
  • Send daily updates and regular progress reports to in­ternational management team regarding prospective projects, construction and implementation of current projects, and monitor existing projects.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate is a dedicated team-player with strong interpersonal skills who has a background in water engineer­ing, community development and mobilization, and working with international stakeholders. The candidate must demon­strate a proven passion for working with the community and possess detail orientation and problem-solving skills.

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree or professional diploma in Electrical Engineering or closely related field with an emphasis on solar, rural electrification projects

Senior Water Engineer (Field Manager)

Job Summary
We are seeking a highly trained and qualified individual to join our Tanzania team as a Senior Water Engineer Field Manager, based in Dodoma Region. The Senior Water Engi­neer Field Manager is responsible for designing, implement­ing, and managing iA’s solar water pumping systems, as well as completing maintenance and providing technical support to all existing water projects.

Further, the Water Engineer will be required to coordinate and implement all water-related field activities. This includes identifying and selecting our project beneficiaries, actively facilitating community mobilization and sensitization, es­tablishing and maintaining regular communication with the communities we serve, implementing project-related activ­ities and providing regular reports and ongoing monitoring of the projects. This position requires frequent travel to the field to identify new projects, as well as manage all stages of iA’s solar water pumping systems.
Responsibilities
  • Oversee all field operations related to water projects, including prospective project search, project construc- tion/implementation, and monitoring and evaluation
  • Supervise the on-site work of iA contractors, including hydrogeological surveys, drilling and pump tests, wa­ter quality analysis, and all construction and installation works related to ongoing water projects.
  • Where relevant, work closely with the local contractor to plan, design and implement drip irrigation systems.
  • Ensure contractors’ strict adherence to all project time­lines, and provide Country Director and Deputy Coun­try Director with daily updates and reports from the field.
  • Work closely with iA’s international and local team and contractors to plan, design, and implement solar water pumping systems, including the system’s water distri­bution layout.
  • Assessment of a community’s water needs and cal­culation of available water supply to properly size the system’s submersible water pump.
  • Assess the need for maintenance work on existing wa­ter projects, identify faults and malfunctions, and pro­vide sustainable solutions.
  • Procure and source invoices of all approved system components to ensure organizational transparency and identification of reliable vendors with high quality, cost effective, items.
  • Create competitive construction and maintenance budgets on Microsoft Excel using procured invoices.
  • Conduct community technical trainings and sensitiza­tion to all iA water beneficiaries on water management for water and agricultural use
  • Support field team and conduct effective sensitization to all iA water beneficiaries, including establishing proj­ect steering committees
  • Maintain regular contact with iA’s engineers in Israel to successfully implement and monitor new solar water technologies and remote monitoring systems.
  • Research and implementation of best construction practices and equipment in all iA projects.
  • Support Project Manager to establish and manage re­lationships and communication with local, national, and international stakeholders.
Qualifications
  • The ideal candidate is a passionate and effective team leader, with a minimum of 5 years of managerial expe­rience, preferably working with international teams.
  • Possess at least 3 years of experience managing the successful construction and installation of solar water pumping systems.
  • Demonstrate exceptional interpersonal skills and a proven commitment to serve vulnerable communities.
  • Professional experience working in the field of com­munity development and exhibit detail orientation and problem-solving skills.

Field Officer

Job Summary
We are seeking a highly trained and qualified individual to be our Field Officer in Dodoma, Tanzania. The Field Officer is part of the Program Team and is responsible for imple­menting Innovation: Africa’s field project activities. The Field Officer works under the supervision of the Project Manager and will support activities related to the identification and implementation for new projects in Tanzania and shall be responsible for tasks related to selection of beneficiaries, implementation, reporting and liaison with the community.
You will regularly report progress and weekly activity report, share the number of beneficiaries reached and actively en­gage in community mobilization, coordination and sensitiza­tion. Candidates should expect to travel to the field to search for new projects, mobilize and ensure the communities fos­ter responsibility and ownership in ongoing and completed projects, as well as monitor projects already established.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee all operations in-field throughout the project’s lifespan: prospective project search, project implemen­tation, monitoring and evaluation
  • Appropriately sensitize the communities, establishing steering committees, coordinating the establishment and management of income generation activities for the sustainability of the projects
  • Support the Project Manager in managing relationships with district and other government officials
  • Fully participate in visits from the international team, do­nors and guests
  • Send updates and reports to international management team of implementation for on-going projects and mon­itor projects already established
Qualifications

This position works under the supervision of the local Project Manager and is responsible for overseeing geophysical surveys, drilling of boreholes, technical implementation of iA solar water pump­ing systems, liaise with local solar water contractors and in- house engineers, as well as providing technical support in all projects.
The Field Hydrogeologist will also be respon­sible for all iA field activities, including identifying and se­lecting the beneficiaries of our projects, actively engaging in community mobilization and sensitization, establishing and maintaining regular communication with the communities we serve, implementing project-related activities, providing regular reports and ongoing monitoring of the projects. As this is predominantly in-the-field work, candidates should expect frequent travel to the field to identify new projects, oversee the construction and implementation of ongoing projects, and monitor completed projects.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee and lead activities related to the supervision, data capturing and analysis of all stages of the imple­mentation of iA solar water pumping systems
  • Work closely with the local contractor to plan and imple­ment all solar water pumping systems
  • Manage on-site work during all stages of the system construction and installation that is: geophysical sur­vey, borehole drilling, installation and water distribution points
  • Supervision of geophysical survey, drilling, development of the borehole, yield testing and water quality analysis from initial testing through to final reporting
