Job: INTERNAL MEDICINE SPECIALIST - (1 POSITION)


The Aga Khan Health Service, Tanzania (AKHST) an institution of The Aga Khan Development Network, comprised of a tertiary hospital in Dar es Salaam, 5 primary medical centres and 15 new outreach centres located across Tanzania. The institution has completed a major phase II expansion of the Aga Khan Hospital, Dar es Salaam in 2018. This expansion aims at improving the Hospital’s
quality of facilities and infrastructure to become an ultramodern 170 bed facility in order to increase its capacity as a provider of high-quality medical care leading to tertiary care, referral and teaching hospital. The Phase II development is focusing on expanding key clinical services including a comprehensive cardiology programme, oncology services, and neurosciences, as well as the expansion of orthopedics and trauma, diagnostic imaging, critical care, and women and child health programmes. The Hospital is ISO and JCI Accredited (achieved a level of quality and patient service that is equal to the best hospitals in the world) and the teaching site for The Aga Khan University, which offers postgraduate medical education programs leading to Master’s of Medicine in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine and Surgery.
Similarly AKHST has commenced a major construction of a District Level Hospital in Mwanza upgrading the current PMC which currently has a busy outpatient center with inpatient activities, and 3 outreach health facilities in the cluster. Additionally, in the coming year, 2 new outreach centers will be established . Programmatically and in addition to existing services, the Mwanza district level hospital is being significantly expanded (on an alternative site) with specialization in Internal Medicine, Obstetrics/Gynaecology, Surgery and Paediatrics. The Centre will also be part of the continuum of care for early diagnosis and treatment as part of cardiology and oncology programmes. All of these programs will be supported by appropriate diagnostic capabilities and will be linked to the Aga Khan Hospital in Dar es Salaam.
We are seeking for enthusiastic and qualified experienced personnel for the following position:
INTERNAL MEDICINE SPECIALIST – (1 POSITION)
JOB SUMMARY
To provide clinical including quality and administrative leadership in the department through the development and implementation of clinical service and operational plans which is aligned with the vision of AKHST to develop secondary care in Mwanza, extend its services to Outreach Centers and establish a learning environment with a view to foster education and partnerships.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
» Develop / adapt short and medium term strategic plans for the department.
» Participate in budget planning and implementation.
» Lead implementation of the departmental plan including its clinical service components.
» Conduct Outpatient and Inpatient services.
» Coordinate referrals with other hospitals including digital health arrangements.
» Mobilize necessary resources needed for efficient delivery of departmental services.
» Lead implementation of the clinical service objectives of the department.
» Provide leadership to review and develop appropriate policies and procedures to enable best practices in patient care.
» Provide leadership in quality of care and patient safety measures.
» Provide oversight on clinical governance.
» To participate in the on-call coverage of Internal Medicine in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Department of Medicine.
» Actively participate in the Quality Improvement program.
» Provide close supervision of the clinical performance of the interns and residents when required
» Serve in divisional, departmental and organizational committees as required.
» To comply with all the professional and ethical standards and express adherence to the Medical Staff Bylaws or the organization.
» Show the expected respect, at all times, to all patients, their families, colleagues, subordinates and all other members of the healthcare team.
» Provide leadership and support to the institutional programs of infection control and antibiotic stewardship program.
» Perform other relevant duties and charges as directed by your supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
» Graduation from a medical school recognized by the TCU.
» Successful completion of a structured accredited Residency Training in Internal Medicine.
» Completion of Masters in Internal Medicine Program acceptable to the TCU.
» Any other Post graduate course will be desirable.
» Total experience (training and post-training) should be equal to, or more than five (5) years
» A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in a Hospital level after certification.
» Experience in hospital quality program and clinical governance is desirable.
» Certificate of Full Registration from Medical Council of Tanganyika.
» Valid Retention Certificate from Medical Council of Tanganyika.
Duty Station: Mwanza, The incumbent should be willing to travel or stay in any part of Tanzania.
